Exchange rate...

And even if you purchase the car in the US where the taxes are less, I'm sure Canada will still nab you for them when you register the car. Same thing happens in the US state-to-state. I bought my car from a private party in Tennessee and then had to pay the tax on the purchase value in Michigan before I could register the car.

There are little ways around avoiding paying taxes and most of them will land you in a cell...
yes it is true, that is really annoying!

The amount the Government makes on taxes for doing a shit job sucks.
Cars alone are mind boggling, every time its sold they charge tax on it.
Imagine some cars sold, 8-10 times in a life time.
Can't think about it to much, make you crazy.
Hire a real good accountant, worth their weight in gold.

Marginal tax rate for Ontario is 49.53% For Nova Scotia it's 50.00%.
How does an accountant change the rate?
This forum is not really the place for this.
But I have a book keeper, than I have an accountant.
He gets 5000 k for year end and advice, trust me, he is worth every penny.
And I can write it off, but I paid 18% last year. My employees pay 22-30%.

The weird thing is...the new Focus RS in Canada has a FAR lower increase in price, compared to our neighbours in the south (in comparison to the difference of the GT350 from Canada - USA).

We don't get options choices for ours, so they come fully kitted for $48,669 + taxes

The US pays $42,275 (same equipment) for the same car...or $6.5K less.

The difference in base GT350's is what...$15K? Percentages aren't even close.
The GT350 is built in Michigan and the Focus RS is built in Germany so there are different exchange rate conversions for both.

Edit: Actually not really sure CAN Euro conversion €32516.94 US Euro conversion €38374.26
So we actually get a pretty awsome deal on the Focus RS

Here are the rates by province. Just plug in your total income.

http://www.ey.com/CA/en/Services/Tax/Tax-Calculators-2015-Personal-Tax

Average tax rate: the amount you pay in total
Marginal tax rate: the amount you pay on any given tax bracket
(usually the amount we get crazy over..its the tax rate on the highest dollar you earn)

So you may pay pay 49% on your last 50k in income but only pay say 40% on your overall income. Income from sale of stocks is about half (25%)...dividends about 33%

also note: the cars cost about the same when you factor in the exchange rate:
____________________________________________________________

The killer is the Provincial/Federal Sales tax on the purchase...that last minute adder..

In Ontario it is 13%...in Nova Scotia it is 15%

In the US it averages around 6% plus local taxes (for many States). rates even in a State can be different...eg Philly is 8%, other part of state 6-7%

Yes...in Canada you typically pay the tax when you register the car and receive your plates.
