This is what the sound tube looks like (picture is from eBay, I threw mine away). I don’t recall if the Mach’s have them from factory because the intake is different. It would connect on the intake tube and at the firewall

The sound tube goes from the intake air tube right outside the air box, along the driver side fender well down to the firewall. and is attached to the firewall by one bolt. That is not the soundtube

and if it’s needed.
You can look at any piece attached to the engine and come to the same conclusion. So what specifically about the sound tube made you questioned if it's needed ?

It looks like what I would expect a fuel tank vent valve (purge valve) to look like.
