I came out from work today to find this huge fucking crack across my windshield. This was no there when I arrived to work this morning. It goes from the passenger A pillar to the middle of the window. Any ideas on what the hell happened?

Heh, I'd say that looks like a stress fracture.

A rock could have hit way up on the window right at the A pillar starting a chip/crack. If it got hot where you live today the heated cabin air could expand enough to cause the crack to grow. New cars are sealed pretty good so likely how it grew while parked. Just a guess.

I don't remember a rock hitting the windshield and it hasn't been very hot here at all 60-70. In the middle of the crack there is a chunk missing where it seems like something made contact. Hopefully it's not a stress fracture.

Maybe it took a round from an angry or jealous GM owner. If a chunk is missing, that is likely where it originated. Maybe a projectile from a weed eater or lawnmower? Yard crew working today??? Or a kid with a pellet gun who was bored?

Very common here in the mid-west. You get a small stone chip and on a good cool morning you turn on the defrost. The temp change is fast enough that you can just watch it crack go across the windshield.

This literally happened to me last month. Didn't know I took a rock to the glass at the A pillar. Came out from work, there it was. Waiting. Safelite guy installed the new windshield slightly off center. Next car is getting windshield protection film on day 1.

Whatever you do go OEM, stay away from "safelite"

I had the same thing. Came out in the morning to a crack. No stone chip or anything. Had glass coverage, so it was replaced. I think it is just bad glass, but trying to go to Ford for warranty on a windshield is an up hill battle and not worth the hassle.

I have had rock chips on my windshields and hot and cold everything living in the midwest, never cracked a windsheild like that. I am gonna say internal stress during manufacturing.
