After a scorching bank holiday in the UK I decided to take off the Nokian winter tyres and fit the Pirelli P-Zeros.

Went out early on Saturday morning during Storm Hannah and wow. The car is down right dangerous. Either Pirelli sold Ford a load of cheap Far East remoulds branded as P-Zeros or the bloke in charge of development preferred handling akin to sticking a McDonalds tray under each rear wheel.

I knew they were bad but not this bad.

The performance pack comes with summer tyres as standard, so the P Zeros aren't rated below 7'c. I complained to the dealer about this back in March 2016 when I took a roundabout sideways at 20 mph in the damp. I then took mine to the dump and replaced them with MPSS. The newer 2018 model comes with Michelins as standard.

I stubbornly stuck with the P zeros until they got down to 3mm as I couldn't bring myself to throw away perfectly 'good' tyres. I think they are OK in the warm weather, but overall, they are clearly not suited to the UK and I was very glad to see them go.

My heart says the Roush is my best mod but my head KNOWS the best mod really was ditching the awful PZeroes for MPS4S - mate was tiptoeing all winter with his GT with PZeroes whereas I spent most of winter in SportMode in mine with the MPS4S.

i'm still running on P-zeros - need to get all that I can out of them - :fingerscrossed:

new Michelins cost a lot of cash!!!

Just out of interest - and assuming most people dont do this themselves -

WHO do you trust to change your tyres on your Mustang?

Kwik Fit?

National Tyres?

Local garage?

I used STS tyres in Stevenage to change my front 2 last month, noticed when I was washing the car last week the alloys have been gouged to shit. It's around the rim under the tyre, so there's no way I kerbed them.

I got my full set of MPSS sent to F1 Autos because they were next door to my work, tbh just use any garage that you trust

You're probably safe for the next few months :) but by the time winter comes you may NEED to get rid.

Tires in general are expensive. What will a full set of Pzeros cost? 600? At least I reckon. I got my 4 PS4S for £743 fitted, so very happy. That was with the Michelin cash back offer which runs out tomorrow I believe.

For what its worth, I wouldn't trust any large chains to do mine. Had mine done at F1 autocentres in Newbury. Got the feeling my wheels were not exactly handled with great care. I'm sure there are a few minor scuffs that were not there before. Hard to argue that, unless you're going in with flawless wheels.

Best place would be a specialist, or a trusted dealership. But then you're more likely to pay more for the tires at such places. Got my 2nd service on Friday at Ford in Hungerford, they wanted £200 more than I paid to throw on some PS4S tires, so going elsewhere was a no brainer, even though I'm sure Ford would have taken a little more care than this place did.

+1

After some research, I had an independent mobile tyre fitter based in East Midlands fit mine. It's the fitter's own business (rather than a disgruntled/irresponsible chain employee) and he seems to have decent kit (not that I'd really know). Sourced the tyres myself and he just fitted them. Great job; correct torque and not a mark on the wheels. Slightly more expensive, but not when factor in what your time is worth (could easily be 2 hours when you include travel to a tyre bay, waiting around and actual fitting). Well worth it for a decent job as well.

I have to admit I wasn't in any hurry to take the Nokians off like I have in previous cars. I put the P-Zeros back on a couple of weeks ago and have since experienced temperatures from anywhere between about 3-20°C (got to love Scotland). When its warm they are pretty good, if its below 10°C you have to be careful, if its below 10°C and wet...well you aren't going anywhere in a hurry

I was looking for 275/35/19 and 295/35/19 and would have been around £900 for Michelins, so in the end fitted Yoko Advans at just over £600. Not done many miles on them yet as the stock wheels and tyres are back on for some unwanted trips to Ford, but my car doesn't see a lot of extreme cold or wet weather so not noticed too much difference. In 10 degrees plus i've not had too many problems with the PZs.

I did, but never seem to find the best deals. Though with the site's user interface I could easily be missing them!
For the hell of it just went and looked -
275/35/19 - £235 each
295/35/19 (Merc fitment) - £190 each

Ideally i'd like wider with a bigger sidewall on the back which would be 305/35 but none of them listed.
