Sounded like a balloon popping from front end

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can perhaps shed some light on what might have occurred. I had one side of the car jacked up, so full load on the other side, stupidly went to turn the steering wheel and heard what sounded like a balloon popping... Car is still driving fine, doesn't seem to be any problems in the front end, any ideas what this noise was?

Took a closer look at this today by removing the wheel, it appears the popping noise may have come from the tie rod end dust boot seperating up the top (as seen in the picture below). Does anyone know if this needs to be replaced with a fully sealed one or is it not too big of an issue?

I am picking it was the coil spring binding.
