I found this little gem in the US sub forums and, just wondering if anyone here has looked at doing an upgrade to the Stereo system, and if they have found these details are the same for the Aussie spec cars?

http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25501

I guess things have changed a bit since the last time I upgraded a stereo, which involved throwing in a set of 6x9 speakers in the parcel shelf, an amp in the boot and a pioneer radio cassette with dolby and music search:)

The options available now are more mind boggling than picking an exhaust system. I don't want anything over the top but some decent rear speakers and maybe upgrade the door speakers so it has some bass will do, and take if from there if it is still lacking. Would be interested if anyone has already done an upgrade and what was involved.

Now I have fixed the exhaust, the Coyote sound track is a very nice sound, but also would like to hear some other tunes in a decent quality on long drives.

I read pretty much through this entire thread the other day (hopefully this is the right one, I read a few) http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18313&highlight=speakers

From memory, a few had good results with swapping just the rear parcel shelf speakers (PITA install), and the front door ones with JBL speakers. Nobody really solved the bass problem without a sub though.

I think a cellphone has better bass than our cars.

(ps: actually being serious :D)

Custom carpeted fibreglass corner subwoofer in the boot is what I am going with

I haven't found a single time where the car has been "lacking" in bass. Lot of techno and hip-hop pounding away in my car at all times and I've never been left wanting...

Sure, a speaker swap/addition of a sub might help some if they're just after more kick in the lower end, but a car is the last place you should be striving for sonic accuracy, so I can't recommend spending thousands on a full system upgrade.

100% accurate. Quality is definitely better via Bluetooth audio...

Overall sound quality is terrible... Really really terrible!

So you are saying using a Bluetooth connection gives better sound quality than playing over the usb connection?

Hey Melbnut - your profile says you also have a Golf GTI.

I'm going from a MK6 GTI to the Stang.

How does the basic sound system compare...? I find the VW stock sound tolerable.

Personally for a car its not terrible. No wear near as good as my cayenne though. Bass is alright , Mids are really muddy though and the highs aren't pronounced enough even with a bit of tweaks :()

I agree the sound quality is awful. I was spoilt on my FPV, it had a great stock system and now I miss it.

Attached is the parts list for the Shaker Pro system (aka 401A).

I checked the speakers in the parcel shelf and they are marked 18808AB which is different to the US model. I wouldn't be surprised if the other speakers are different too but I'm not ready to start pulling door panels off yet.

No, we have the Shaker (non-Pro) system, which is "9" speakers only.

Shaker Pro has coaxial speakers in the rear deck, and a sub in the boot.

Those speakers in the parcel shelf look like they belong in a clock radio, the magnets are tiny. I remember having a look at them when I was mucking around with the spare wheel. I think that will be a good starting point, upgrade them first and see how that goes. I don't want to fit a sub if I can avoid it, and a couple of decent speakers up the back may make enough difference.
