I swapped mine out with Royal Purple 5w90. There's a sticker on mine that says 75w85 so I don't feel like I'm too far off. I didn't add friction modifier since the bottle said it already had some in it. Hopefully I don't mess up my diff.
I did this at ~1000 miles and the factory fill was pretty gross. Lots of metallic particles on the lower drain plug.

I haven't been able to find a spec for how often it should be changed. I'm assuming Ford says never to keep maintenance costs down on paper. I'm planning on changing it again around 30K

I am wondering if I change mine out for either Royal Purple or Amsoil if it will help quiet the gear whine?

Because I can afford to take preventive steps and changing the suspension
introduced a little gear whine. Now the car rides like I want it. YMMV.

Bump for a quick question.
I have a few bottles of rp max gear 75/90, I will be swapping out halfshafts and plan to drain the diff before hand. Is the rp75/90 max gear okay to use, or should I go with an 85w? Also if the 75/90 is okay, should I add the friction modifier? I've been searching through the forum and keep seeing conflicting recommendations. Any help clarifying this is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think mine took almost two quarts for the Ecoboost PP. There are two plugs on the diff housing cover. One on the top to fill and one on the bottom to drain.

Did mine this weekend, think I put 2 and half quarts almost. Just below the bottom of the fill hole. Used RP 75-90. Nothing else added.

Lots of metal accumulated on both plugs.

EB PP 22k miles.
