Rear deck lid smuge

I purchased a new 2022 Mach 1 in December and after detailing the car in May I noticed a smudge on the deck lid near the Mach 1 emblem. Have tried everything to remove it, nothing works. Also tried a picture and it’s only visible at the correct angle.

Not a big deal but open for suggestions.

Guess I can replace it or paint it.

hmmmmmmm I don't know what would have caused that.

First I'd try "goo gone", then a clay bar, if no luck with those some Turle Wax Polishing Compound

You know on second thought, get a Qtip, dip it in lacquer thinner, and rub it across that area to see if it strips it off. Obviously this is risky, as you may not like to find what is underneath.

Now the thinner itself will not hurt your factory finish at all, but if there is a crap repair job underneath the smudge you might have a worse outcome.

Wow, that almost looks like it was melted in that spot? Very strange. The finish does not even look like the rest of the smoother gloss black decklid.

Any warranty? Get Ford to flip the bill for ya.

Otherwise you could also just replace it with a different decklid from a crashed car. I personally would not try to repaint it. Hope you can get that looking better though!

It appears like something dripped onto the panel from above ,maybe during shipment, I'd ask the dealer for a replacement panel under warranty.

The more I look at the picture the more I see an attempt at a repair. The leading edge of the panel is rough like it has been sanded right above the spot while the rest of the panel line is smooth and clean.

I think that has been there since new, and you have only just noticed.

I suspect (as I have one) that there is a proportion those panels that are reworked (before shipment to ford) and I think you got half a job (flatted but not re lacquered) before the badge went on and it was shipped.

To my eye, that looks like witness of sanding from a small orbital (check the pattern around the edges), and right in the middle of it (top right of the H) is the defect they were flatting out.

I’m not sure how you fix that, without removing the badge …

I'm not sure you can fix it even if you do remove the badge. Its just glossy plastic, its not paint you can easily correct.

I’ve had three of these panels now :

• Pre facelift OE GT panel from a USDM car (used).
• Pre facelift OE blank Ford Performance panel (new).
• Facelift OE euro GT panel (new, on my car).

All three are lacquered (check carefully around the return edges etc) but you are right, they are not quite as easy to correct as standard lacquered finishes

My 2021 Mach 1 had that. And same thing, I could not get rid of it. I'm not sure if my current 2022 had that, but I replaced the rear decklid with a carbon fiber one now so the OEM piece is gone.

Hey this is Junior from N4SM, I have some paint correction/auto detailing experience. I have seen this before and It looks like it could be clear coat failure or some sort of sanding/rubbing marks. Easiest thing to do is replace the panel fairly easy to install. If you want to keep the oem decklid taking it somewhere to be cut and polished would be my recommendation. Having it wrapped in paint protection film would probably hide it and protect it from the sun.
