I figured as much, but couldn't even work out how to change the bastard light bulbs with the manual in front of me, so didn't trust my own opinion in the slightest!

Sounds more likely unhappy coincidence than spring-related however.
Regarding the sidelight bulbs, the manual will lie to you. Don't trust it :tsk:
