Oil life calculations are usually a combination of time since reset, run time / idle time, and total fuel burned since last change. Total fuel burned usually one of the key metrics for durability and oil life testing in development.

I changed my oil before storing the car for winter in December, and when I took her out in April oil was 60% life. Less than 200 miles driven.... I now have about 45% life, and about 800 miles on oil.

I will change it for the sake of it with Amsoil before my first track day.

The oil change meter is based on time and millage both. If you just change oil and park the car for a year, it will tell you to change oil.
IMO changing oil before winter storage is waste of money.
