Hey guys I see a lot of people saying with higher hp boosted cars the mt82 will be a weak link and fail. How much power can this thing actually handle? Eventually I'm aiming for 750rwhp off of a whipple SC. You guys have any input and knowledge?

Believe at roughly 700 the input shaft will probably snap its teeth off.

I am running a billet wheel JT vortech making close to 800rwhp and as long as you have the transmission setup properly. Good clutch line good clutch mgw shifter and a single piece drive shaft I have always thought the mt82 is one of the best shifting transmissions I have driven. No life shift at 7800 1st-4th and knock on wood no issues. Car has been 10.0 at 132 letting out at the 1000ft mark. also have been 10.3 at 139

Well that's gives me some hope that my tranny stands a better chance than I figured, just heard of guys twisting out their input shafts. Luckily the whipple at that power lever doesn't make massive amounts of torque.

I'm curious too, and will likely find out soon with the addition of twin turbos.

Anyone here have first hand experience with the 2015+ MT82 twisting input shaft?

Someone went mid-low 9's with an MT82 in a 11-14 Mustang. At full weight a 15 mustang with driver and power adder is 4000lbs. They are pretty strong considering.

I ran it hard at 700rwhp with no issues. I'm gunning for 800-850rwhp on E85. I'm not worried about the input shaft but I was about some of the internals. I had a stage 1 rebuild done which should be good enough for my purposes. I don't do drag racing so I won't be doing 6K drops off the line.

Good to know, where do you get the rebuild stages?

What clutch and flywheel are you running? I need to upgrade soon I'm procharged with 700rwhp.

Can't ever go wrong with an rst or rxt McLeod
The problem is I can't decide which one to go with and what flywheel to choose. I heard the heavier flywheel is a little better in the centri cars.

Well rst is 800hp rated and rxt is 1000 depends on how much more power your gonna push. I was always told that for a "drag race" setup a steel flywheel is a better choice than an aluminum but I could be wrong

I was leaning towards the rst since I'm on a budget right now but that might be pushing it. I'm probably pretty close to 800fwhp. Thanks for the info.

No problem, I'm planning on stopping around 750rwhp, I still think it's weird McLeod gives a HP rating and other companies give a "good up to said amount of torque"
