Then you are running into grip issue.
It's all compromise.

The 1st gear is not really important in a track-focused car. 2nd-5th is where it is at.

By having a taller 1st, it allows better 2-5th being closer ratio to keep in the torque band. Other wise 2nd gear would have to be taller to close the gap.

6th is a waste, just to get a mpg rating above 16 lol.
Yeah it's pretty clear that 6th gear had a very clear MPG target and literally nothing else. 2100 RPM at 70? That's LS type of gearing but the difference is that LS's actually have a nutsack at that RPM. My 07 Civic 1.8L passes better in top gear than the 350.

Actually the C7 has 7 speed so you don't have that weird gap between 5th and 6th. I hate that gap on my GT at around 55mph. It's too high rpm (2100rpm) for cruising in 5th yet too low if I shift into 6th (1500rpm).

Yeah, wish the 6th was shorter. It's all complaint I have with the car.

The LT1 can actually handle it though even if there was that gap. After driving a C7, I couldn't even see why I'd use 6th.

I had 3.73's in my last 'Yote car. I wish I went with 3.55's instead. Had problems at autocross and cruising was definitely kind of annoying.

I bet it can being such a large engine.
It would be nice to have a gear in between so the rpm drop is more linear.

First is long. Torque multiplication through gearing is what you do with a huge redline. Not make a 54mph first gear lol.

If first was say 47-49mph, we would probably shave .2 off the 0-60 time
Perhaps.

But since 0-60 isn't this car's main mission in life you compromise a little away from that to get better gear spacing for what it is intended for.

On edit, a 500+HP MT car intended for the shortest possible 0-60 times would probably push the 1-2 upshift off past 60 . . . no shifting = no time actually decelerating on the way up there.
