Yup finally, lol. Idk why or how it went in either. Didn't apply any extra force than I tried earlier.

I used this diagram:

However, it still didn't turn on even after turning the whole car on. So not quite sure if the wiring is different or what.
Same diagram I used, doubt it would be different.

Yup lol same wires. My radar detector was defective, unfortunately. Got another one and hooked it up just like the '15 and it works flawlessly.

So my question to convertible owners: clearly, a RD is more exposed, top down, it's just hanging there, top up, easily cut to steal it.

I'm generally not in areas or away from my car where I have to worry, but my top is down 90% of the time, and I'd probably want to take it down and stash it in some cases.

Just wondering what other vert owners do, or if anyone has a mounting setup that's stealthy enough where it's very unlikely to get stolen.

Mine is pretty exposed and even at car shows I keep the top down. No one has ever fiddled around with mine. I'm guessing if anyone thought about doing it, looking at the way it's mounted may have deterred them? Not too sure. I'd definitely be concerned if it was just suctioned to the windshield, but my alarm would go off plus it'd take a good 10+ seconds for someone that's unfamiliar with the way it's set up to take it off of its mount.

Yeah, I'm not normally in a position where I'd need to worry, work out of the house, it's in the garage most of the day, or parked 100 ft from where we're sitting/eating.

I'm thinking of a Mirror Mount for my V1:

All my detectors are mounted the same way. I remove the suction cups from the supplied mount and use 3M double side trim tape to stick it to the area on the windshield with the black dots so the lens on the detector just peaks out from under the dots. Won't help the vert owners but it is basically not visible unless you know to look for it.

MSP seems to be relying on VASCAR more and more these days. Sadly there is nothing that can detect that. Would hate to spend the $$ on a nice detector only to get burned by VASCAR.

VASCAR lines should be painted on the highway that mark the entrance and exit of the timing zone. If you can locate those areas Escort's Passport IQ nav allows the user to store hazards such as Vascar zones. In fact several Escort products allow you to mark advisory areas.

But frankly the last VASCAR zone I ran across, WAZE had so many cops pinned in the area it was obvious something was going on miles in advance.

Vascar can also use landmarks like signs or bridges - really anything. Your point about Waze is a great point, especially in my area, it seems there are pleanty of waze users on every road.

Waze is the sh!t right now but Google will probably cave in to pressure and deactivate the police reports.

Aircraft patrols are very rare in Texas but when I pass through southern Louisiana on the Atchafalaya Basin bridge there are sometimes air patrols. That bridge is so long and straight it's easy for speeds to get away from you so a police scanner can help. But if you want to wade into even deeper waters you can look for the Zaon MRX PCAS system. They didn't have great range for private aviation but they worked great for picking up aircraft flying above you. But they are out of production and hard to find now days.

Of course at that point you are beyond "hobbiest" and in the realm of "enthusiast" gadget geek.
