Hey everyone,

I’m a victim of the IMRC actuating rod failures and have to start shopping around.

My 5.0 is a 37k mile 6sp MT82 with a stock drivetrain but half of the Steeda/BMR catalogs thrown at it.

Anyways, has Ford updated the intake manifolds for Gen 2s? Are the rods stronger now?

I’m also shopping PP3 and the GT350 intake, are these IMRC rods an issue with the GT350 as well?

thanks in advance

The PP3 is a good route to take.

The GT350 manifold has steel rods and they do not break. AFAIK the gen 2 manifold has not been updated.

Super strange, the broken piece from my IMRC rod is magnetic which to my understanding means it can’t be aluminum.

Have you heard that the GT350 rods are a little stronger? Is it a better alloy? Generally beefier?

I’m not eager to buy a 15-17 replacement if nothing’s been revised. I see this part number floating around though FR3Z-9424-N.

Mine broke and I went with the GT350 manifold. I have never heard of these breaking.

I know the gen 2 manifold was not available for a long time, they might have fixed it but to be honest that manifold is trash. It won't pass CARB but the 18 truck manifold runs as good as the 17 GT manifold.

So I’ve witnessed. i can’t believe how shitty the construction is on these.

I’ve got to keep it CARB friendly so the PP3 is the other feasible route.

Picking ford performance’s brain about it vis email and will report back.

Gt350 or gen 3 manifolds are the best options imo
Any intel for why? Besides flow, I know they are definitely superior. I’m just wanting to never do this again.

It's just the easiest route. Ford doesn't make the gen 2 manifold anymore last I checked, and buying a used one isn't worth the gamble.

Won’t argue there. I can find new ones with the part number above but won’t do it if Ford can’t confirm that it’s been strengthened.

GT350 and the PP3 feels like the way

To stay CARB compliant it is the only way unless you gamble on a gen 2 mani.

The only negative is you will have to use 91 octane, 93 is preferred.

I’m following. That all makes sense.

PP3 would be wonderful but I’m hesitant to spend more cash on this car than I need to.

This is really going to come down to what Ford Performance shares with me.

A fresh gen 2 manifold will be about $800 shipped, PP3 is close to $2,000 shipped.

Your profile pic signifies you might understand me when I say I’ve grown an interest in two wheeled ventures.

A new gen 3 takeoff is $300 on eBay, but it will require tuning

If I had the liberty of doing so I’d be all in. No questions ask.

I’m diy-ing everything so parts are my only expense here. However, I live in CA and I have to play by the rules.

I’ve taken down the manifold and pulled the rod. A single steel square 3.5mm rod is failing in these cars and costing thousands in parts/labor for people.

Ford should be manufacturing and selling these bits.

I am working on pressing the adapter w/ball joint on the end of the rods out to try and explore what local machine shops have to offer.

I put the PP3 on my ‘16 GT vert back in the day, totally recommend it, noticeable gains on the butt dino and chasing that redline is even more fun, more drama! Btw I live in cali and paid full price for the PP3 pack, would do it again honestly
