Holding a button down for 7-8 seconds to drop the top seems a little old considering we're in 2016. There's no in between either --- the top will either be up or down, so this button holding thing should most definitely go away.

Don't know how other cars work in regards to this and don't care.

I have a convertible so it would be something like Mercedes-Benz's "Airscarf."

It's something they pioneered in 2004 that shoots out warm air from the headrest down to your neck and shoulders for top-down driving during cold weather.
