Just discovered two nice scratches on the back right bumper - doesn't look to be too deep.

I think the guard metallic may be hard to replicate. Anyone have experience with DIY kits?

Well I did some more research and found Dr Colorchip. Is this only for chips or scratches as well?

How deep are we talking about?
Can you catch them with your fingernails?
Fingernail deep scratches but only in clear coat can be wet sanded out. If you can't catch it with fingernail, you can use a mild polish to take it out.

I bought the ford kit from ebay, I haven't tried it out yet. I will see what it looks like after I get the front end repaired from a hit and run :frusty:

Here's a pic I just snapped - http://m.imgur.com/YF9eUIY

My fingernail definitely catches. It looks like the paint was stripped right off on the top one

Well thats either paint transferred from another car or its down to plastic.
Yes you will need touch up paint if it's down to plastic.

Pretty positive its plastic. Yikes. Should I get it professionally done or will this touch up paint suffice?

To add ... if the scratch disappears when it's wet with water, then it can be filled with only clear coat and polished. I've touched up a lot of clear coat scratches with just clear if it's only in the clear coat.

Looks pretty big, and definitely down to plastic. Someone with good touch-up paint and mad skills could probably make it disappear for the most part.

Thanks for your replies all. I'd be happy with it mostly disappearing, I know it will not be perfect again. Any idea how much someone would charge for a touch up?

I'd ask around at local big dealers. They usually have an airbrush guy that comes around weekly.
