Hello,

While I LOVE my CFTP wheels, I can't really find anyone who will touch them! My Ford Dealer and my local shop refuse to change tires for me for fear of damaging the wheels. And, with my last car, I was going through at least 3 sets of tires a summer (all track) so I think I'd like to add a set of "track wheels" to use more regularly.

Any recommendations?

I've had 3 different local non Ford tire shops work on my CF wheels with no problems. It's not a difficult as it seems. Keep looking, they're out there.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll find a shop who will work on these wheels. However I will still want a second set of wheels and tires. Any ideas on good one's to use for tracking the GT500?

Aluminum will be a compromise. I'm with Tony, find a shop who has the touch less machine and tip the guy well to take his time.

If you are insistent on Aluminum, then look at BC wheels. BC wheels are quality forged wheels that manufacture wheels for signature.

One last bit of advice is don't get flow formed wheels. Some call them spun forged, but they are not true forged wheels. This is going to cost you, but don't go down the spun forged path and go cheap, especially if you are tracking your car.

Again, stick with the carbon fiber.

BC Forged is pretty pricey considering they are made in Taiwan.

I would strongly recommend Forgeline for really high quality wheels.

Yes, Forgeline is a name I've heard of many times. Good stuff. Let me ask you this, on my past track car, a ZL1 1LE, I had the OEM set plus I had a OEM set of Z/28 wheels from my past 5th Gen. They worked like a champ. Are the non-CFTP GT500 wheels from Ford a decent option or is Forgeline a better way to go?

Last question, what are the "specs" of the CFTP wheels? I know they are
Front - 20 x 11 and Rear - 20 x 11.5 but what are the backspacing and offset numbers I'd need to order a set of replacements?

Thank you!

The OEM GT500 wheels are on all the cars at track attack. They are somewhat inexpensive, fit the car, and look OK. Granted the students at track attack don't push the wheels to the limits but the instructors do.

I am sure the OEM wheels are fine since they are engineered for these cars and are obviously OEM. Forgeline is much higher quality and holds up better. Not sure about the specs...

Most of the wheels are made in Taiwan. A lot of people rave about the signature wheels, but few know that BC manufactures them for signature. That is why I recommended BC because the quality is quite good compared to the price.

A friend who was shopping for wheels, who by the way is extremely intelligent, (F-18 pilot, author, airline pilot) went with BC and has no regrets. He reminds me a lot of myself by the way, lol.

I would agree with you that if you want the best and made here, I would go with forgeline, probably the GS1R

they are boat anchors, spun forged I believe. If you are not going to use the CF wheels, then get fully forged aluminum.

Interestingly, the only shop around who offered to work on the CF wheels, said I should get Apex, I have no experience with them...are they robust enough for track use?
They are . There are different model. Some stiffer than others.

I race them with my racecar 🙂
DM me if u need more feedback 🙂

2nd for Apex. Beautiful and functional for track wheels (big lug areas, reinforcement where it counts). I was blown away when I got mine, for their price. Have had CCWs and been around lots of forgelines, and these are much closer to forgeline detail.
