Here is something that I am wondering about the new infotainment system that Ford unveiled today and our mustang now... Being that it all is software based and on the QNX.. will Ford be offering the system update to current users our 2015 Mustang s that is and ditch the MFT? Since it is or will still be under warranty or is it only going to be offered in the newer 2016 model years when the system is set to launch... maybe Ford service can chime in on this?

According to Cnet's coverage of the announcement they will not be upgrading any previous MFT models (2015 and below). This will be first available in some 2016 models and then across the whole lineup by 2017.

It won't be available as an upgrade to existing SYNC systems due to new hardware, but it will be in every model by the end of 2016

the most exciting thing about it for me as a tech is that it will now have Wifi capability to update itself as needed, updating the current system is such a hassle.

The first 2 years it will be filled with bugs. So 2018 is probably when its stable enough to use it without frustration. :frusty:

Kinda funny, they finally get it right. This is the first time SYNC Microsoft has worked for us, complete failure in our pass Ford's. We got the base to latter replace it, but it turns out we love it.

Yup I agree. My first experience with MFT was on my 2011 Explorer and it was buggy as hell. The latest version on my 2014 Explorer and I get along very well.

basically you can use your MFT to create a hotspot from your phone. which is pointless, considering you can just have the phone as direct hotspot

Seems like 2009 all over again. I order and take delivery of my 2010 Mustang in 2009 just to find out the new 5.0L that was rumored to come out in 2 years initially was confirmed for 2011 model year AFTER I took delivery.

Hmmm, a new infotainment system and a Mach 1 would be mighty tempting...

So QNX is an 'improvement'? LOL. And nice that they ripped off the MS Modern style...
