As it's hard/expensive to find FL 2087, can I run FL 2062 on my 2020 if I don't track it?
I have to believe it would be fine considering it was the factory approved spec when I bought my car too. For absolute peace of mind, yes use a 2087 if you can but I can’t help but think we have all bit hard on the idea that using one now will cause instant engine death. Not terribly unlike how people think GT350’s suffer huge amounts of engine failures, but do they really?

The manual is very specific that you must use an FL2087 or possible severe engine damage may occur. You can use whatever you want. Who cares. But if something should happen, you would be smart to have an FL2087 installed. Like I have said, I have used an FL2062 for many, many track events when the filter was the specified item. I never had a problem. People don't want to own a 25K engine or have to pay a lawyer an equal amount to exercise their free right to use another filter.

I guess it's the same argument for many issues.... my rights..... my rights.....

Go ahead and use what you want. Don't come crying here when your dealer tells you (and I mean this generically, not to you or any other member) to go pound sand. Your warranty has now been voided and its up to you to hire an attorney and fight the uphill battle.

Even if I had to pay the ebay $90 price, I'd still do it because it isn't worth the BS.

You took a portion of what I said and used it out of context. Completely not what I was saying. Looking up the factory manual, up to 2018 models specs the 2062. For 2019 MY the 2087 is indeed spec’d’:
“Note: Use only a Motorcraft FL-2087 oil filter for maximum performance, reliability and durability.
Note: The use of any oil filter other than the dealer supplied oil filter may cause engine damage.”

Yes, and the old 2062 spec has been superseded by the 2087. If you have a 2018 or older, then you could argue that the manual that you have states a 2062 is the specified filter. I think that you would win that argument when push came to shove. The story is entirely different for the 19 and 20 folks.

For what is at stake, I still think for the cost difference of a 2062 vs a 2087 (yes, even the inflated ebay price) that taking a chance simply isn't worth it. Most people get a year out of a filter, whats another $40 on top of the MSRP of a 2087? If anyone is willing to roll the dice like that over $40, well then, I certainly don't expect them to understand what I am saying anyway.

I think the bigger issue is even finding them at this moment. I'll gladly pay $75 ea if I could find them.

I think the filters are out there at dealers, but they're holding them for their own customers who bring their cars in for an oil change. At least, that's been what I've been seeing.
The one dealer I had to drive too, had 16 in stock. They said they were holding them for their own service center. They relunctantly agreed to sell me one, only after I showed I bought the car from them a year ago.

Earlier this week I ordered a 2087 from FordPartsGiant. I couldn’t find anywhere on their website saying they were out of stock so I rolled the dice, fully expecting them to send me an email saying it’s back ordered. To my surprise, a day later I got a shipping notification and today the filter showed up!

I was given one this weekend. If this continues, I will consult the dealer and have them order what they can with my approval. Again, relationships with dealers are key

Looks like there is no FL-2087 shortage in the Great White North. Just picked up two at Dixie Ford in Mississauga. They had 20 in stock. $61 Canuckistan Pesos + 13% sales tax :giggle:
