What do you consider to be a "built" motor?

Stock bore and stroke, but added stronger components. (pistons, arp bolts, etc)

Just curious on what everyone things.

Mine opinion is my own. Built to me is anytime you replace a factory components. It's not blue printed all out motor, but you have done something to the motor to handle more power then it was originally intended to do. It's not stock any more, but it's not "fully built".

Your thoughts. ....

Upgraded Forged internal is the foremost thing. Making it handle more power and or boost. PP or upgraded heads and other internal upgrades are icing on the cake.

Well it's certainly not wheels, splitters, spoilers, or changing colors.

Built in my opinion is a having the car setup with the minimum amount of performance aftermarket parts it takes to achieve an intended goal. I.E Poly/Derlin/Solid IRS bushings, shocks, springs, etc. for drag racing.

Built engine is changing at least one internal component and or upgrading the heads, IM, etc

To me it means aftermarket cam(s), stronger/lighter rods & pistons, head-work, & a stroked or de-stroked crank and any accompanying parts to support those mods.

In my garage, a "built" motor is one I took apart and done "built" back together.

All kidding aside, I wouldn't describe a motor as "built" unless the bottom end has lots of new goodies, like an entirely new block, or a combination of crank, rods, pistons, bearings, etc.

Lots can be done to the top end from the heads all the way to the TB, however, aside from valvetrain work, much of that work is largely bolt-on work sorted out with a tuner. A fool can bolt something on...it takes a bit more than bolt-on skills to build a motor and know where to even begin with the tuning.

Just my two on the topic.

"Built" is when all OEM parts are stashed in the garage and every available mod part is installed into the ride.

Basically, you "built" another 5.0 with your mods.

Redone internals, bolt-ons don't really count in my opinion. Lots of people have bolt-ons, some have an extensive list. Very few of those people have done anything to their block though, for example.

Built to me means forged internals with ARP hardware!
