I just had mine replaced after the GT faux gas cap snapped off and went skidding across the road when I was closing the boot (I use the internally mounted strap mentioned earlier in the thread).

It was scratch free up until that point, but I always ensure that I use proper washing methods which probably helped.

The new part is the one made specifically for the 2015-2017 (without the crease down the centre), so will be interesting to see if this one holds up as well - not sure of the manufacture date.

Anyone have a link to a factory replacement GT decklid? I have been looking on the classifieds for a factory blackout decklid but haven't found one. My decklid has a small crack by the GT emblem and I want to get a replacement. I can probably go to the dealership and order one too...

Unless you caused the crack bring it to the dealer and get it replaced under warranty.

I've had that same thing happen, and it was replaced under warranty. What year is the car and is the bumper-to-bumper warranty still good?

It's a 2019 with 16k miles. Warranty is good until November. I'll give it a shot 👍🏻.

Hey guys,

What's up w the cheap black plastic decklid cover where the GT is located? So many scratches in short amount of time and no wax can fix it.. have car since 3/25/2021 and it looks all beat up already. What gives??

Thanks Anthony
switched out the '16 with a carbon fiber one. Not only has enough clear coat to make scratches repairable but also isn't the dust magnet the plastic one was. On the '19 I've just had it ceramic coated and that seems to be working just fine.

Here ya go, I had written up this DIY a while back for how to remove the scratches:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/trunk-lid-appliqué-scratch-repair-diy.122441/#post-2641817

Ford must have changed suppliers with the 2018+, because the material is much softer and more susceptible to scratches than the 2015-2017 panels.
Good to know since I'm going from my 2015 GT 50th APP to a Mach 1. Ceramic coated the entire exterior immediately, so hopefully some of the annoying scratches can be avoided.

Mine on my 19 GT was replaced right after I bought it 225 miles. I bought it Feb 2020 after sitting on showroom floor for a year and a half.

What brand ceramic coating do you use?
Thanks Anthony

I used Detail King's Jade Quartz ceramic coating. I thought it was easy to apply on my kona blue. Sure makes the paint pop. They have alot of videos to help you do it yourself. Makes cleaning easier too. Brake dust washes off the rims easily.

I use ArmorShield IX. Easy to apply. Preparation is the key so you don't seal in any paint defects. My black 2015 GT Premium and silver 2011 Taurus SHO have both been coated for more than 3 years. Water still beads off them. I just redid the GTP getting it ready for sale.

A headlight repair kit will fix it right up. After that, be extra careful washing a drying, using good microfiber, and waxing it

You don't need a handle. Just push on the badge to close it so you aren't touching the piano black surface.
