Other than looks preference, is there any purpose to the black painted roof option? I don't see the draw but I'm all for making your car (or any thing else material for that matter) any way you want it. The only functional change I see personally is possible making it hotter on surface by couple degrees. I'm just curious.

When you park your car outside in the snow, the black roof will heat up faster than a light colored roof and will help melt the snow quicker, assuming the sun shines through the storm clouds.

Remember the vinyl tops of the 60's and 70's?
Maybe the black painted roof is the Gen X version of that...
I'm in agreement with Tomster.

You could be onto something Snoopy49...
A black asphalt driveway melts snow faster than other surfaces.

True Earl but for those who never see snow and instead, have months of 90+ degree weather, the black roof would definitely heat up the interior more than any other color.

That's true but you can cook an egg on a black roof in half the time of a white roof. This is very helpful when you only have a 30 minute lunch break.

my personal opinion on looks is that, with stripes, they look better going all the way over the roof continuously. But the black does look nice on the mono-color cars. either way.

I'm thinking put PPF on the black roof and you've got a cooktop...
Was a cookware set offered with that black roof option?
Skillets in the trunk...
How long to cook a steak?

Depending on the car, I am partial to a black roof. Case in point, my yellow R came with stripes over the top. I thought it looked horrible. However that is the way it was ordered by someone else. The first thing I did was have the roof stripes removed and had the roof wrapped black. Paint was not a consideration. A black painted roof was not part of the VIN or the car as it was ordered. I bought an OEM set of roof stripes so that the car could always be returned to factory configuration.

As mentioned above, it is a hell of a lot easier to go from stripes over the top to a black roof. Again, Im a purist and don't like to permanently change something from its original configuration.

Another case in point, another one of my Rs is oxford white with blue OTT stripes. That car would look horrible with a black painted roof. I think the difference is black stripes goes with a black roof, if that is your thing. colored stripes with a black roof clashes.

And then there is the other R. Avalanche grey, black roof, black stripes. I think that looks great. The black and grey compliment each other.

Let me see if I can find some photos to highlight my point.

I was hoping you'd say that, Tom. <smile>

Standing by... (but I gotta feed my pups and then spend the day mowing the lawn here, shortly. it's WAY overdue.) <bummer>

That was QUICK! <grin>

Totally agree on the choices made for your three vehicles, Tom. The black roof looks very good on yellow and gray but definitely would not look good on the white car.

I'm wondering, couldn't they have wrapped OVER the roof stripes and you'd have had a slight "stripe ghost?" That might have looked cool. :-)
