Are 15-17 retaining value better than 18’s?

So I was just messing around looking at what local dealers have and I saw something weird and that’s that the 15-17 cars seem to be priced equally to 18’s both CPO preowneds. Seemed weird to me because I saw a few 18 401A cars with active exhaust and a bunch of really nice features and they were going for 28-34 with like 8000 miles on the other hand a 17 300a black accent package with 25000 miles is going for 28000 and a 16 with 2300 miles is going for 32 (this one makes sense since it’s low miles but still). Only difference I could see is most of the 18’s are manual trans cars. Kind of makes me wish I had waited a year and gotten an 18. These 401a active valve exhaust 18’s are really nice and with the 7 year 100k mile warranty are hard to pass up.

So what do you guys think are the 18’s retaining their value less or are they just moving more and are getting priced cheaper for quick turn around.

I thought about that but 15-17’s can also tick, its less common but it happens and I mean with the CPO warranty I wouldn’t even be concerned.

I think it's just that the 15-17's have already had the big depreciation hit that usually happens in the first two years. The 18+ will level off shortly.

I see what you mean but I looked at another dealer and the same trend continues the 18’s are cheaper even with the depreciation of both.

Yes. For some reason It seems the market prefers the 15-17. I was offered to sell mine while at the Ford dealer by a customer looking at 18's. Weird.

Yes it's good to be a '15-'17 owner right now.. Values are holding well.. About once a month I get a call from a St Louis area dealer asking me if my gt is available for sale. . Very annoying to the point I recognize the area code and ignore them now..I do blame the dealership out there where I bought the car 3 1/2 years ago..had to of gave my info out...Must be a shortage too

Kelley Blue book and NADA are way far off the market value. their numbers are stupid. Nobody follows this anymore.

Hmm. Maybe I need to look into trading my 15 V6 auto for an 18 GT A10. :)

One additional factor to figure in on the pre-owned/used 2018 valuation is that new 2018 Mustangs are on clearance pricing plus strong factory incentives bringing down the price of NEW inventory cars. With new 2018 prices dropping so will the sale price of the pre-owned cars. Once dealer lots are cleared of new 2018 models the price will begin to stabilize just as they always do.

It's not an investment
Yep, these are lower-end, mass produced sports cars. Low production, special models become collectible (sometimes) and of course, high end sports/supercars tend to retain and sometimes increase their value. But then, I didn't get my Mustang to turn around and sell it, I'll probably keeping this forever, hopefully.

Yeah, the 15-17s are real collector cars, I pity ye all for having to fight off would-be buyers at every possible corner.
