Not exactly helpful, but I'm planning to use my EBPP wheels as my autox/track wheels with sticky tires and run all-season 285/35's on 19x10 wheels the remainder of the time. I hope I get out to autox enough to wear a set out in 2 years, but historically I throw away dry-rotted tires with 80% tread remaining...

305 continental street tires are NOT faster than 275/285 RE71Rs around an autox course, so if you have to prioritize, get the faster tire compound, not the wider tire
This.

For at least this year (as well as last year), I'm on 275/35R19 RE71R for my track wheels (9.5" square). They are far from slow. Would I be faster on 305s? Yeah, but I'm not at all far off those who are, and much faster than people on 275/285 Indy 500/Pzero/Conti tires (over 2 second against nearly identical spec car and on a 63-65s course).

I am very aware of the ability of the re71r, i get destroyed by them every time lol. But I not in a position to have a dedicated set. Thats why I asked the question is it worth to go 305 or just stick with an easier 285 set up. Knowing that an re71r will not likely last a year let alone two, I am not considering it. As much as I want to be competitive, I'm not trying to win a championship, just trying to become a better driver.

Then stick with the 285 until you can afford a dedicated set, IMO.

Agreed. Just stick with the 285s. Having recently made the switch from 285s to 305s, the actual G force differences are less than I expected.

Believe me I get it. Last year was the first time I've had a dedicated set for this. It's worth it when it's viable, that I assure you.
