31.8 @ 75 mph is pretty good. Did you have a tail wind? One day I was curious about the mpg difference between speeds and tested it out on a very flat road in the desert. I literally went 50 miles w/o touching the brake or changing lanes w/ cruise set at 75. I started the test once the car was up to speed. I'd have driven further than 50 miles, but I noticed no change in the mpg between 40 and 50 miles and I wasn't headed anywhere. I know 50 miles probably isn't enough miles to give a definitive number. 800 miles, however, could be more accurate if you were at cruise speed the whole time, w/o dipping to slower speeds. Did you do any dipping of speed?
I would say 80 miles spread out over the 800 could have been a slower speed around 65-70mph. I was at 32.1 before we stopped for some food/gas. This was also with a few spirited blips to keep me awake! Also with 2 passengers and luggage.

Took the hour drive to my dealer and for 28.5. That's with getting off and on alot of roads and congestion. I can see it easily getting 30 while cruising.

Edit: 3.55

Personally, short mileage reported by the computer don't seem very accurate, so don't really tell me much. What I will be curious of when I get my V6 is calculated MPGs over several tanks of gas. That reflects what I am actually getting, not what I could get if or when I am driving a certain speed or distance. But the 800 mile trip was very good info for that scenario!)

Did a hand calculation this morning for the trip! Computer read 31.8 and my calculation came out to 31.2!

I second this ^^^
This sounds good. My current car averages 22 miles per gallon (2000 2.5L V6 Chrysler convertible). I was hoping this one got 25 to 26 miles per gallon with the same 60% freeway 40% city driving that I do. sounds like that might be possible.

Set trip 2 odometer to zero a few weeks ago and never reset it. It is now at 1950 miles and the calculated MPG is 24.5. This is 60% city, outskirts of the city, and rural, and 40% interstate. Now today I was on the interstate for about 100 miles from Columbia SC to Summerville, SC. Some moderate uphills and downhills. Was able to get 31.4 MPG driving between 68-71 MPH. MPG went higher below 68 and lower above 71. V6 Auto, 3.15 gears, and Magnaflow mufflers, that's it!

I think it really is a testament to the design of this car that it is able to get 28-30mpg highway and have so much power. I think it may be possible to eek more gas mileage out of this car then my 02' Ford Focus, even with 3.55 gearing.

Not to derail this thread...but do you have any sound/video clips of your v6 with the magnaflows?

Is anyone seeing an improvement in mpg with higher octane than the 87 the manual says to use?

I have run 93 a few times to see if there is a difference. You might see a 1 mpg improvement. To me the difference 93 gives is hardly worth the premium price per gallon and the difficulty of finding it where I live.

So I calculated my return trip mpg. I took the more "scenic" route home through Georgia while visiting family along the way. 1200 miles with more hills, stoplights, and a lower average speed. Average mpg was 30.4 calculated by hand.

Has anyone found the 'optimal' rpm to maximize fuel economy? Im feeling its somewhere in the 1700-1900 range .
