I've been a bit remiss in not sharing photos and info on my new Race Red GT550 so here goes...

Collected from Dealer on Thu 4th May, good handover experience, half a tank of fuel, 22 miles on the odometer and the front numberplate stuck on as instructed, however, they had washed it against my specific instructions :tsk::tsk:

Used Manders Mustang's what to look out for on collection list (essential reading!) and everything looked to be OK apart from the centre hood pinch issue which I resolved myself with washers under the catch when I got it home (the photos were taken before I fixed this).

Short drive (in snow/wet mode) along the M20/A20 to Ultimate Finish at Brands Hatch for Gtechniq new car treatment on paintwork and wheels and they have posted a blog of what they did to the car here: http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/car-care-blog/new-car-protection/ford-mustang-5-0-v8/; a bit tense for the first few miles as I threaded my way through town traffic to get to the M20 but I began to enjoy the drive once on the motorway.

I collected it on Tues 9th and after filling up the tank began exploring the throttle response on the M20/M25 'til I got home with a big grin :D

All is not sweetness and perfection though as the underseal monkeys in Zeebrugge have, in addition to coating all the places under the car which don't need it, coated the inside of all the wheels :mad: so they could not be Gtechniq-ed and I am pursuing remediation with the Dealer. Also, I have marked one of the front rims by failing to avoid an enormous pothole on Tilburstow Hill which coincidentally number 2 son found as well in his Fiesta, Surrey roads are a nightmare, worse still for bikers and cyclists.

Mods: I am fearful that Manders Mustang and others may send the Spanish Inquisition after me: as I'm intending to leave the car pretty much as standard although I have already installed the Steeda clutch assist spring; my interest in classic cars where I have spent years and a small fortune removing stoopid mods from my E Type to return it to original spec gives me a different perspective.

In summary, the 250+ day wait has been worth it and the car is a head-turner with an almost constant flow of (mainly male) friends coming to look at it; to those forum members still awaiting delivery of theirs you will not be disappointed!

Excellent work Peter! Looks stunning...shame about the wheels - do let us know how you get on, I will look out for this on mine.

Regarding the mod addiction; nothing wrong with staying stock! It is the classics that got me here & it's the real, fully original, untouched ones that I admire the most. Few subtle mods can't hurt though ;)

Enjoy
:cheers:

Congrats, looks ace:thumbsup: As for mods, I thought the same as you but soon realised I couldn't live with the exhaust, that silly hood prop, plastic header tank, crap gearknob etc etc:D These cars are a blank canvas and can easily be improved with a few tasteful mods

Had underseal in my wheels - that's fairly normal. The new-car-detail got rid of it (mostly) though so I'm not fussed. Nice car ;)

What is a GT550? Is that an English thing or term?

So was I :doh:
GT = Car Model
v8 = Engine
S550 = Body code (Can be I4/V6/V8. Or In other names EB/GT/V6 or 4pot/4banger 6pot/6banger)

Sure there's some other names ;)

To confuse things, the MY18 remodel is an S550 too, but we're dubbing it the s550.2/s550 mk2.
2021 new model stang will be the S650.

Confused ;)?
