Inquiring minds want to know.. What is in the Suitcase under the car! Well it is actually a Resonator and now in part 2 of the mini series Inside the Stock EB Exhaust we find out what is packed in that Suitcase... for Science! :headbang:

overall view. Inlet is on the right.. outlet is on the left.

we start at the inlet which is surprisingly decent and steps up to 2.5" ID which is larger than the stock inlet pipe.

The single 2.5" offset bent inlet pipe ends and there is also a small diameter pipe next to it that part of the resonator but not a direct exhaust path (exhaust is not required to travel down that tiny pipe to exit.)

It then goes into 2 small diameter pipes to exit the resonator. They are 1.875" and step up to 2" as they exit and step up again after the exit.

*** Edited post with Measurements ***

Resonator.
22.5" length
9.5" wide
Thickness ranges as it is roughly 3.75" at its thickest and 3" at its thinnest. It is not square when looking at it on end.

Wow I wish a ford engineer would tell us exactly why that was used. Could you use it for organ music pipes now.

Thats why you get the band clamps to reinstall the OEM mufflers if need be.

In regards to the resonator... It actually isn't as bad as I expected it to be.

Haha I understand. I would really like to start seeing some homemade exhausts that don't cost $1200.... As the ecoboost could very well be my next mustang in a few years I am very interested in making it sound good!

Thanks for the excellent pics!

I'm sure it may rob some power, but it does its job to mute the "resonant" frequencies that either annoy the driver or excite other parts in the car to buzz /make noise when the engine passes through a certain rpm range.

Would be interesting to see a dyno run before and after just simply swapping out the resonator for a straight pipe.

My assumption is the fact this is a global car now. Much different noise requirements dealing with global use. This seems to help reduce the decibels.

My '15GT is by far the quietest of all the 9 V8 Mustangs I have ever owned.

It is better than the mufflers, if you ask me. O/R downpipe, stock resonator and some decent mufflers probably won't be all that restrictive and will sound decent. The key is to find a pair of mufflers.

Exactly my thoughts... This is what the car sounds like with just an O/R downpipe on stock exhaust. With a set of straight through mufflers that provide a deeper tone it could sound good.

I... will not be doing a downpipe to stock exhaust.

Good lord.
I hate this car and how it sounds.
