Hey guys, I purchased a 2016 GT350 Track Pack back in Dec 2015. I ended up selling the car in March 2016 to help fund a start up. Well Things are going well and I am back in the market for another one. My question is I really like the Boss 302 as well, would a modded Boss 302 out perform a stock GT350? The boss having Upgraded suspension, New pilot super sports, lighter wheels, brakes, power upgrades, ect. I can get a 2012 Boss 302 for almost half the price of a GT350, and with another 10-15k in upgrades Im thinking its more of an attractive option. Also there are less Bosses produced than the GT350.

I loved the exhaust sound of the GT350, but I am leaning more towards performance. I also have a membership to a local race track and would be tracking the car frequently.

Thanks for any advice.

Here is the best direct comparison that I have seen between the 2 cars . . . Based on the mods that the Boss has, that is up to you what floats your boat for track time vs cost.

Based on what you are saying I think the Boss would be a better choice for you.

Thanks!, I have seen Boss 302s that have 450whp and rev just as high at the voodoo (8250rpm) I have seen the video as well and its great! But I am looking for a comparison for a high modified Boss 302. Basically im looking for a streetable track car that would have the most performance. It wont be a daily driver. Forgot to mention that.

Here is a nice video I found of a modified Boss 302

But its hard to compare to the GT350 because the have never driven any other mustang.

I had a '13 LS that I sold a few months ago as well as a regular '13 B302 prior to my LS. Compared to the GT350, the B302 has probably four glaring deficiencies.

The stick axle. For a track car it's maybe not so much of a big deal but on a twisty back road the car is a handful. A Watts link could help a great deal however. Independent suspension in the GT350 is worlds better.

The MT82 transmission. It's terrible. 2-3 shift you will miss at least half the time unless you get a MGW shifter. Even then it's no match for the Tremec in the GT350.

The engine. The Roadrunner is great and arguably more robust than the Voodoo. But you'll be spending some serious dollars on a B302 engine to approach the horsepower of the 5.2. Stock for stock however the B302 has more torque down low.

The brakes. No comparison whatsoever. Ford cheaped out on the B302 brakes and splurged on the GT350's.

The '12-'13 Boss 302 was a great car with the resources Ford had at the time. If I was a track rat it may be on the short list as they've gone down in value quite a bit. It took me a very long time to sell my LS so you should be able to get one for relatively cheap.

You got to ask yourself why ford went with the 5.2 CPC in the 2017 conti series ? The voodoo was grandfathered in for the 2017 conti series. Go with the Boss and maybe save some money. They are both great cars.

There could be lots of reasons.. I dont think that decision necessarily says what you think it does.

SMH!!!! It's because of the OPG and tha Magn"A"ride LOL It is actually pretty obvious to me why the Voodoo was not used. Development of the 5.2l CPC is crucial as this will be the performance platform moving forward. What better way to develop an engine other than a racetrack? The Voodoo was said to be only used in the GT350 and seems like Ford is keeping true to that. Either way the GT350R/C was kicking ass and taking names last year.

OP is obviously weighing cost for performance and due to that I would also choose the Boss but the 12 Boss as I am not a big fan of the 13 front end. Although! If i were to choose the 350 I would go with a base model as I would gut the suspension and go "full retard" or rather full on race mods.

Totally agreed on all of the above based on having owned many Laguna Seca's and especially the statement about the Boss 302 engine being more robust than the Voodoo engine.

There is no question that the Boss 302 cars have much better low end torque than the GT350's with the Boss cars not giving up much in straight line acceleration to the GT350's at least up to 125 MPH.

I would also suggest that surpassing the horsepower of a stock GT350 with a modified Boss 302 engine may cost less than you think.

With respect to total production numbers (including all pre-production units) for 2012/2013 Boss 302/LS's compared to the one year regular run of the GT350/GT350R's there were approximately 50% more GT350/GT350R's built for the 2016MY compared to either of the 2012MY or the 2013MY for the Boss 302/LS cars.

Having said that there were approximately 50% more Laguna Seca's built for each of the 2012MY or 2013MY compared to the 2016 GT350R's.

2012 LS - 787 units

2013 LS - 756 units

2016 GT350R - 526 units

All of the above Mustangs are outstanding automobiles but I would give serious consideration to a Boss 302 for a modified track car and in particular a Laguna Seca model. I just happen to know where a pristine one is for sale.:eyebulge:

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Not to criticize the outstanding year the GT350R-C had but the only name it was taking was Porsche. Why because they were the only other car it ran against. Once in awhile a Aston Martin showed up. This year is much better with over 7 manufactures in the series. Camaro is coming back after Sebring. Should be some great racing in GT4. The Shelby might have won @ Daytona this year had it not been for 2 drive threw penalties. One was for spinning its wheels while on its jacks. Auto trans caused that mistake. :ford:
It finished 5th and was closing but ran out of time. I hope they don't bop the mustang GT4 because it was the fastest car out there. Sorry back on topic.

After having Magnatic ride control, I can't go back. And the Voodoo motor. The biggest problem with th S197, I'm just so over the 5.0L. It's a wonderful engine don't get me wrong but I just needed to move on.

Any modded car can outperform another stock car, I like to do settle mods on my car, but if i ever come to a decision of spending 15k in mods, I always end up upgrading to a better car instead.

nastang87xx, "MAGNATIC" !!!! I practically spit my coffee all over my work PC...HAHAHAHAHA

Great comment, 5.0L. It's a wonderful engine don't get me wrong but I just needed to move on". I have owned 3 different version of the 5.0, 12 GT, 12 Boss and a 15 GT. They me be more robust vs the voodoo but know where near as exotic and unique as the Voodoo. The Voodoo is a sophisticated grown up version of the coyote with fancy "I" talian shoes...
