Really upset That the S550 has no resale value. Even with Performance pack. The Roush conversion doesn't add any resale value. Unless you find that one individual that know what they want. Rant over.

It's a car that is produced in excess of 100,000 per year. Mustangs traditionally do not hold their value and it's a more limited market for that class.

Please folks, don't buy these cars if you think you can buy it, drive it for a year or two and then sell it for only $5,000 less than MSRP. If you bought a 2015 and put say..18,000 or 20,000 miles on it..you should expect to get only around $19,000 from a dealer on trade in or $25,000 private party on a $35,000ish paid price.

When i traded in my PP for the C/S it had like 3,000 miles on it and i totally expected to take a big loss, but it wasn't really bad at all. But as 1320' said there is absolutely nothing special about the mustang to make it hold resale worth a crap. Especially given how many mustang owners only want new so they don't chance what someone else has done to it before them...

Yep.

If a dealer sells a Mustang, then takes it in on trade, they have to accept that often times people don't want a used car (because of some need to be first) and because they don't trust what happened before. That means they won't take a risk by giving very high trade in value on it if it's going to sit on their lot for 3-4 months before they can sell it or trade it off.

It really comes down to the dealer though too. I traded my 2015 EcoBoost Premium (non-PP) for $21,000 with over 28,000 miles on it this past summer. The poor resale value the OP is seeing right now might partially also have to do with the fact that no dealer wants to take a sporty car in on trade in the middle of winter and have it sit on the lot till at least April.

Mileage, options, and combo are a huge factor in the value. Naturally if you drive it a lot, the value will drop.

Aftermarket mods do not add too much value. Maybe 30% of the parts value unless it is highend parts, but even then.

That too, yes.

I had my 2010 Challenger R/T (paid $31,585 cash for it) and when I traded it in 18 months later they tried to hit me with $15,000 trade in value. I refused and they eventually bumped it up to $18,500.

I saw it on their lot two weeks later with a price tag of 28,000.

Used cars and service depts are where dealerships make the lions share of their profits.

It's a Ford. There are, what, millions of these things now. Many people overpaid at the dealership in the first place. There is an underlying (and often correct) perception that the car was used aggressively vs. as your usual to work and back appliance. List goes on.

But most importantly... it's a Ford. Not even the "amazing" Ford F-150 retains resale value I'd be happy with.

I've come to learn that the only decent resale value is a Tacoma or 4Runner. And even then it's not bullet proof

In fact most dealerships prefer they be stock..stock cars are easier to sell.

A friend of mine worked at a local Ford dealership back in 2013. They had two basically identical 2012 GT's sitting on their used section. One car had about 12,000 miles on it, Kona Blue, premium, black interior, automatic. Had a sticker on it of $27,500. was bone stock.
The other was a Ingot Silver premium, saddle interior, automatic with 10,000 miles but had a Borla exhaust, TSW Nurburgrings's and the Ford coupe handling pack. Sticker price of $26,000 even.

The Kona car sold in 6 days. The Silver car sat for 3 months because people didn't want to deal with someone elses custom jobs.

On the other side of the token, I traded in a 2015 Camaro SS with 20 something k miles. I got 25500 for it, and I purchased the 2016 Mustang GT for 30300 (sticker was 35800).

The Gt had been on the lot for awhile, and they were eager to move it. The Camaro was on their lot listed at 26, so it really just depends on how motivated the dealer is the move the car you want, and how quickly they think they can turn around the car you're trading it.

It's a Mustang. What do you expect?
I lost $6000 trading in my automatic for a manual in 10 months and 3000 miles.

You could have swapped to a manual for less than $6,000 haha.
