Then how does my $100 Cobra pick them up before I see the cop?
Because either you're getting hit by a constant on radar or the cop is targeting you with laser. Laser has a very very far range.

If someone can prove me wrong about cops using a constant on Lidar, please do. I don't see how that would be effective given how Lidar works.

I have been using the WAZE app for about a year and it has been good to me so far...List every red light camera, accident, police, construction. etc etc..

I mainly use it for road trips, it has saved my ass many times since the info is updated by users...

but YES, a radar detector is also piece of mind, Valentine 1 or escort 9500 are my top 2 choices... Going to look into the Escort 360 now due to this thread..LOL
Waze is only really useful for well trafficked roads, and even then it's never been real accurate. It's accurate for accidents, hazards, and other stuff, but never been super accurate for police traps. Routinely there's police marked on the map that's not there.

I guess it depends on your area, how how well other people use it. Also, good luck with waze on any type of semi-rural road.

Escort Max 360 and ALP Laser Jammer. Expensive but effective.

Do many municipalities still use radar? I always seem to see laser.
I live in Mass and the only cops I see with laser are the state police. A few cops that I know do not like laser. It requires them to pay to much attention and aim the gun and they say they can write all the tickets they want with radar.

In Houston they seem to like it on crowded freeways so they can clock a single car in a pack. One things for sure, they like targeting this Mustang whether I'm speeding or not.

I use a V1. If money wasn't a problem, I would be using a Stinger.

Escort Passport 8500 X50. It's a couple of years old (and has been factory recalibrated and updated), but still does a great job. On my recent trip to Ogden, Ut, it picked up Utah State Police long before they were in sight. TBH, I didn't pay attention to what band but it was likely Ka and POP, because the audible is very distinctive and urgent.

I use the suction cup mount and it goes just to the right of the mirror-I can still see it well because of the angled face, it doesn't block my view, and the SmartCord is in reach. That also gives a clear line of sight to the rear view sensors.

My commute is only 4 miles, so I only use it on road trips. I prefer taking it out of the car anyway, as I had my previous Passport and Garmin stolen out of my Pontiac while in a restaurant in Arizona.

Anyone use Mirror Tap without any issues getting those prongs in? Most frustrating thing ever. Red prong went into the mirror connector just fine. The prong for the black wire on the other hand... sigh.

Nope, no problems here.

Very interesting. Having the same issue I had on the vert. Pretty annoying. Just bought a T-Tap connector and may end up going that route :\

By Radar Mount. Now I finally got it to go in, but radar detector isn't turning on FML. Probably different wiring for the 17s or something, no clue. Worst case scenario is I just blow a fuse I'm guessing?
If you want for $25 shipped I have a spare blend mount mirror tap. Retails for $40, never opened it. Comes with different size taps so that may be your problem. Might need a thinner tap. Ordered it because I broke mine when I didn't have my radar secured in the mount, but then it got lost in the mail and I didn't feel like waiting so I bought a tool to fix the rj11 connector. Came in the next day.... Here's a link to it

Nvm saw that you said you got it to go in. What plugs are you in?
Yup finally, lol. Idk why or how it went in either. Didn't apply any extra force than I tried earlier.

I used this diagram:

However, it still didn't turn on even after turning the whole car on. So not quite sure if the wiring is different or what.
