What is it about the 2018 mustang GT that gives it the sub 4 0-60?

Porsche thought their owners would be OK with an PDK only GT3.....it is the "fastest" combo after all.......but they got an earful from their customers. Some people simply like the mechanical interaction of rowing their owner gears. If straight line speed is the only metric, then the logical solution is to forego a Mustang all together and buy a Corvette or Camaro.....a revolting thought, but to each their own.....

Or they want a manual GT3 because it'll be worth more if they sell it 2 weeks later :)

These days I would bet that the majority of sales for ANY car is people who aren't car enthusiasts. So an automatic will ensure that buyers are more satisfied with their car because if they had gotten a manual and couldn't quite figure out how to shift they'll blame the car which is bad for business. Think that's just the fact of the matter these days, there are just more people that aren't enthusiasts and have money to waste on cars.

Not this^.

The 2018 does 0 to 60 in under 4seconds because of the A10 tranny. The fact that it also comes with a brand new engine, with dual-injection and 460hp, only helps.

Previous Mustangs don't have an A10, so you are not going to get similar performance with adding HP. Not to mention, the 2018 is mechanically better machines.
Yes this. My buddy has a tune 17 GT by Lund, with Super Sportd and runs the 0-60 in 4.3-4.5. Stock 18s on the street will do the same.

Gearing and traction. If you tried to give a stock eco or 2017GT the same gearing you will likely just spin your tires bald in 1st-2nd gear. 0-60 is not the end-all either, especially with a RWD car.
Exactly. 5-60 is a far better and more realistic test.

That is 4.6 0-62 and not 0-60 right?
That's an important question.

The stock PP cars require a shift into 3rd right at 60MPH, or a tune that lets you rev higher. If you have to do a 3rd shift to get to 62MPH, that's a huge time waster.

Yep, "You're A Peein" numbers are always 0-100 kmph which when translated is 0-62mph.

I don't trust official times. Ford said the 2015 EU GT MT does 0-100km/h in 4.8s yet it's impossible to get under 5s stock (that was the result of a lot of different measures on the german forum). As long as no journalist can test the car and tell us about the real performance I think the under 4s 0-60 with 10AT, drag mode nanny Statement is pretty much bs. If the car performs that good why don't they let anyone drive it?
UK MY15 has less power, but I got 4.8s stock, albeit on MPSS and not Pzero, but otherwise the car was stock. :)

With full custom tune, panel filter so around 460HP (crank) I achieved a best of 4.6s though my 0-100 time reduced by over a full second. :)

Manual car!

The reason the MY18 can do sub 4s is as follows in priority:

- Finally a proper good fast auto like European cars have, the A10
- Finally proper good tyres, PS4S are a very sticky tyre
- Mag ride (drag mode)
- Extra power is worth 0.1-0.2s

Essentially its the A10

In short what does Ford publish the 0-60 as for the PP/PP2 package with manual, there is your answer as to how much quicker a proper quick shifting auto is giving the car.

An MY15 will never achieve sub 4s on the street, not even supercharged unless you run something like a drag radial or slick tyre which is not legal here across the pond.
