My 11 year old daughter wanted to go for a ride in the Mustang last night.

She asked me how fast it could go and I was at a loss for an answer. Since I have a tune that has had the top speed limiter removed, how fast will it go? I told her at least 150-160...

Anybody try to top it out?

I've seen conflicting numbers with top speed. Some car sites say that a GT is limited to 155 and others say 164. The speedometer only goes to 160 so that makes it seem like 155 but reputable websites like car and driver say 164.

I remember reading somewhere that a basic rule of thumb, excluding things like drag and rolling resistance, you only need 340ish HP to hit 200 mph. We have that to the wheels no problem since most stock GTs are putting down between 370 to 390.

I'd imagine you could hit 180 easily if you had enough space to reach it.

Yeah, but drag and rolling resistance are rather important parts of this nutritious breakfast. Excluding those from the scenario is like saying that I could jump over the empire state building if only you ignore gravity.

It's mostly limited to whatever the engineers think safe for all the drive train components.
I mean with 400hp I would imagine 180mph top speed should be achievable.
The way it was climbing after hitting 150 makes it very possible to hit 180.

It's going to depend on your rear end gearing, too. The 3.73 cars should be limited on top end compared to 3.55 or higher geared.

I've had my 3.73 into the 130's and with as much pull as there is left I'm sure it'll get to the 150's pretty easy.

Should have clarified, they didn't exclude them completely, they just used an average since every car would obviously be different. There is a calculator on the internet you can use to find a theoretical top speed. I'll see if I can find it.

I have an M6 with 3.31s and have had the speedometer buried at 160 in 5th more than once. No pull once you shift into 6th though. No tune, completely stock.

3.31 rear end gears will give you ~160 MPH at very near red line in 5th gear. Not sure if you could get much more MPH in 6th gear since the RPM and HP point drops quite a bit in 6th.

I saw 148 GPS verified on my AiM Solo DL back straight at Watkins Glen. Have JDM tuned GT350 mani, Continental 305/660-18 tires, and 3.73 gears running 7800 redline. Speed was at about 7200 rpm. I would top out at 160 with this gearing/tire combo.

Back in the day there was a test if i remember, the fifth gen mustang was able to reach 164 mph on a really open road, and the camaro went 174. Both manual. With the current mustang's spec and improved drag coeff ( thats what Ford says but still a mystery), i am assuming it will reach old gen camaros top speed and go couple of miles beyond. 180 mph is a good guess.
