But the GT4 racer is normally aspirated........and we expect any "halo" Mustang to use FI (either twin turbos or supercharged).

I guess it could still be a Shelby.....but rather than GT500, perhaps GT750 (or whatever HP figure they're aiming for).

My money is on the wow factor again... similar to the "wow" factor when Ford announced the FPC in the 15' 350.

If it's not a GT500, it will be something significant... Ford knows it's up against ZL1s and Hellcats... they're not stupid.

We need to face the fact that it might not be coming. Especially with all the speculation of a 2021 new platform change.

I doubt that... I'm sure that with the facelift in 2018 they could do it.

However, that being said, I bet lightweight is being factored into the s650 program for 3 big reasons:
1) competition-driven, 2) forced-induction applications need it, 3) AWD.

If S650 is an evolution of S550, rather than complete clean slate (and there's no reason to believe one or the other at this point), than I'd doubt that the mass would change a lot. However, Ford certainly should be trying to trim the fat as much as possible, even if the car does wind up sharing underpinnings with a Lincoln or something. We all know that S550 was too heavy, and that mass reduction is beneficial all-around. But it isn't easy to achieve, especially when constrained by shared or (partially) carried-over architecture. I have my own reasons to believe it won't be a huge departure from where we are today, but I'm not going to get into that now.

You'll want to spend your money on this next one...not called a GT500...you will like the name...the Mach 1 is a separate model.
NICE!!!!
All I care about is that it's got gobs of power/torque, looks great, sounds great, and has great performance reviews. LOL
Maybe,.............a new age TERMINATOR?!??!!? :eyebulge: :headbonk: :clap2: :D

Ford has been kind of quite on the performance front lately. I suspect Ford will be coming out with some type of ultra performance car before mid 2017 , but doubt it will be a GT500.

Top dog names I'd consider (IMHO)...
Cobra
Cobra R
King Cobra ...not so much...reminds me of Mustang II sticker editions
Boss
GT4 ... represent the global race car
I'm guessing this whole Boss (maybe even 429) thing you mentioned may come up.

Cobra is cool too
The Boss 429 was an awesome vehicle and the engine is still legendary. I'd love to have the 770 HP version built by Kaase in a vehicle! Boss was never my favorite name but it isn't bad.

I wouldn't have any problem with Ford building a top dog Mustang without the Shelby name. Cobra is ok but has been used a lot. GT4... ehh. I don't care for that name as IMO it doesn't say "Ford". Sounds like something European. I'd rather see a name that is more distinctly American. I think a lot of the people in Europe who want a Mustang also like America and would be more attracted to an American name rather than something that sounds like a German car.

It would also be sweet IMO if Ford had something else - maybe even an entirely new name for the car... especially if Ford comes up with a car that deserves it.

Makes sense - 2018 will be the 25th anniversary for the 1993 Cobra and Cobra R.
