A recent article from Jalopnik cited an insider source who claimed that Ford was tapping Getrag to build a new 7-speed manual transmission that could make its way to the 2020 Ford Bronco.
Not only is this great news for the next-gen Bronco, but it also opens up the possibility that this new manual transmission — dubbed the MT-88, could very well make its way into the next-generation S650 Mustang. As we know the S550 currently offers the Getrag MT-82 6-speed manual gearbox.
The MT-88 would no doubt provide a bump to fuel economy and could be a great way to keep the stick shift (and the V8 engine) alive in future iterations of the Mustang.
