Shelby GT350R-C Mustangs Finish 1-2 in CTSC Opener at Daytona

The Shelby GT350R-C powered its way to a big 1-2 podium finish in yesterday’s IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season opener at the Daytona International Speedway.

The Multimatic Motorsports No. 15 Shelby GT350R-C team of Billy Johnson and Scott Maxwell scored the victory after a thrilling battle against Rum Bum Racing’s Porsche 997 in which Billy Johnson overtook the Porsche to take the lead on the 54th of 68 laps.  The checkered flag marks the Johnson-Maxwell team’s second win and the Shelby GT350R-C’s third overall win in the CTSC.

To sweeten the celebration, the Compass360 Racing team of Kleinubing and Holton piloted the No. 76 Shelby GT350R-C, the first customer team to compete with the vehicle in the CTSC GS-class, to a P2 finish in the duo’s first race together.

“It was great to see two Ford Performance Shelby GT350R-Cs on the podium after all the hard work everyone’s done getting the car to where it’s at,” Johnson said. “It’s the first time the car’s competed at Daytona and we’re really happy to be in victory lane with the car and a 1-2 finish for the GT350R-C.
