I run oversize air deflectors. What good are they if the dust shields block air from deflecting straight onto the rotors?

My routine to swap from DD to track wheels includes changing the rotors and brake pads. As long as I am removing the calipers and rotors, it is not much more trouble to remove the dust shields.

The PP models usually come with small shields at the bottom, do you have them all around? I ran the Vorshlag deflectors (much bigger than stock) and did not think that they brake shield would block airflow even with the bigger deflectors.

I cut a opening in my dust covers so that at least cool air will hit the hub. and sense the pp1's rotors cool from the inside dia. to the outside dia. the rotors get a nice dose of cool air. And never mind the blue air deflectors, I did that so I can check how much debis hits them. I figured if it could chip the paint then it could damage the hub/rotors. good news no chips.

Maybe pickup some of the smaller shields from a 15-17? You can probably cut a lot more.

Not worth it. They are not very big as you can see from picture,

If you have a Performance Pack car, it should have the smaller shields. Those do help keep heat off the control arm ball joints, which is a very good thing. If you have the smaller shields, keep em on.
If you have the larger shields, your cooling deflectors aren't doing anything as the huge dust shields block all the air. Buy some of the smaller ones and swap them out.

I double-checked and I have the full-size shields.

@o-man Going by the green body color, I assume that photo is from your car. Will you PM me your VIN so I can look into pricing a pair of small shields?

These are the PNs for small shields when I ordered them last year. I remember they were like $3 each

Right Splash Shield - FR3Z-2K004-H

@GTP

I bought your air deflectors.
I just installed them, and realized I have huge dust shields blocking my rotors from your air deflectors.
When you did your testing that dropped rotor temps by a ton, what were you using for deflectors and what was the comparisons?

IE - stock PP1 dust shields with and without your deflectors was a 50 degree difference, or was the difference (drop in temp) a combination of your deflectors and removing or replacing the huge PP1 shields with something different?

The big drop in rotor temp (80+ F) was with my air vanes and NO dust shields.

I have been swapping pads and rotors on track day so it was no trouble to remove the big dust shields. I ordered the small shields so I don't have to swap, but one has been on back order a couple months.

I believe they are mainly designed to keep water splash onto rotor surface at minimum. I haven't run shields in 20 years. Car doesn't see rain.

Thanks guys. I cut one down, and left the other stock. There was a 50 degree difference on track from right to left (530 degrees and 580 degrees).
