"The research still suggests that while children can be infected with COVID-19, it is uncommon. They also don't seem to pass the disease on as efficiently as adults do, and cases of child-to-child infection are uncommon. And when children do get infected, they don't seem to get very sick."

Here is a good quote. If you say this, then why is shutting down schools a great idea?

Here is another one, get your mommy to read it to you if you must.

"A commentary published in the journal Pediatrics, the official peer-reviewed journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, concludes that children infrequently transmit Covid-19 to each other or to adults and that many schools, provided they follow appropriate social distancing guidelines and take into account rates of transmission in their community, can and should reopen in the fall."

You are half as smart as a chicken nugget or stale toast and since you cannot read very well, you get upset at facts, we get it Soi Boi.

104 million people in America in that age group and they have 16 deaths from covid-19. 16 people, is about the same number as people with fulls sets of teeth over 40 in the UK to put it in perspective for you. It is very very very rare.

This was explained just above your post.

I agree children need to go to school but it is a risk factor for the spread of COVID and needs to be part of a fully coordinated plan. Kids at school will increase the R number and this needs to be balanced out by other measures. So for example if the kids go back to school maybe restaurants will need to close or bars. Everybody has a reason why there part of normal life should return to normal but you can't just view things in isolation you have to consider the bigger picture.
How about isolating the high risk portion of our population and use that as the offset to get the low risk part of our population back to business/ school? Are we doing a good enough job of that now? No, we are not. Restaurants?? No way. They can be kept quite safe with masks on the servers, masks on the busers, distanced tables, sanitation after every family dines. The servers only serve, they do not touch anything customers have touched. Busers just bus tables with gloves and masks. That is what they have done for months in my little town and there have been no known transmissions come of it. Not saying it can't happen, but again do you know how many people cannot cook for themselves?? Even those who can / will cook at home, they then have to up the grocery store visits and touch the same mushroom jar that 15 other people picked up, then decided they needed the other kind. One of the buser's mother, in our restaurant, tested positive, but tested the buser and she tested negative. No one that frequents the restaurant got it, so though we are still figuring this thing out, I do believe we can manage our way through it without a bubble for all.

Yes agree, the only point I was making was that it has to be a balanced approach and kids going back to school will increase the risk of spread. The more you open up the greater the risk of spread getting out of control and every individual item of relaxation adds up to the total. In the UK cinemas, theatres etc are unlikely to open but pubs and restaurants are. It also depends what the spread is currently. Dr Fauci has said the US had poor compliance with the lockdown compared to Europe and opened up before the virus was properly supressed in some states hence the rapid resurgence now.

Everybody needs to act like grown ups and avoid politicising COVID and everybody stands a better chance of supressing and controlling it. However the noise coming out of some on this forum suggests you have a challenge on your hands.

Interesting protest in Germany today led by Extreme right wing (they do like their right wing in Germany) and conspiracy theorists which demonstrates the problems they are having with the same sort of people.

I do believe Fauci is a wee bit political. He has a very hard time owning up to the fact that we had thousands protesting in large crowds shoulder to shoulder right before the "resurgence." I'm not saying "early" openings were not a factor, there always is when you get out of the bubble. But to soft pedal the protests like he and certainly the main stream media has done, while coming down furiously on more conservative Govs, is purely pandering to the woke crowd and is indeed political. That was on full display during the recent hearing and questioning by Jim Jordan. Jordan was right in that he has had plenty to say about what people should be doing, and what Govt should be "forcing" on people. When it comes to the protests however well... he didn't want to get into that.

So you think stopping children from going to bars and forcing them back into schools is the way to go, sounds good to me.

There are 104 MILLION Americans under 24 years of age. 16 of them died of something related too or blamed on the Corona virus or Flu because the CDC combines them in most cases.

The super deadly corona virus gives them a .00000075% chance of dying. Getting struck by lightning has more than TWICE as the risk of death.

Meanwhile murder killed 4,153 people under 24 years old.

Preventable accidents of all types will kill 15,864 people under 24 this year.

Over 2,000 people under 24 will drown this year.

90 people under 20 will die from bicycle wrecks.

Literally everything else is far more dangerous than Covid-19 for people under 24 years old and we still have to cancel school for a decade maybe more. As my father said,"you people are idiots."

Children rarely transmit COVID-19, doctors write in new commentary
Schools can reopen in fall, they say, if safety guidelines are observed and community transmission is low

As always science says one thing and leftists/marxist media outlets attack science and push their political narrative to try and defeat Trump. Once studies are released, the New York times says the opposite of science to push the leftist agenda, as always.

It’s almost reminiscent of Nazi Germany in some respects.
You have the incredibly charismatic leader.
You have a distinct problem that needs solving.
The propaganda is being perpetuated.
Just need a scapegoat...who could that be???? “we shall start with one scientist, and then group them all together....”
Ok, it’s fairly over-dramatic, but the point needs to be made.

The only one saying squat about Trump is you. Do you or do you not believe the protests had an impact on the resurgence? Since you are a believer in staying in the bubble, it shouldn’t be hard to admit. It was hard for Fauci to admit to Jordan and that’s just the truth. That is why I said what I said about him. Not saying he’s a complete moron here.

Stolen from Reddit:

"I feel like if you put Umberto Eco's fourteen properties of fascism on a bingo card and listened to a Trump rally, you'd hit bingo within minutes.

Hoo boy... https://twitter.com/search?lang=en&q=treason (from:realDonaldTrump) -filter:replies&src=typed_query

EDIT: okay I'm going to start running with this a bit, using nothing but Presidential tweets!

  1. The cult of tradition.

  2. The rejection of modernism. [1][2][3]

  3. The cult of action for action's sake.

  4. Disagreement is treason.

  5. Fear of difference. [1][2]

  6. Appeal to a frustrated middle class.

  7. Obsession with a plot.

  8. The enemy is at the same time too strong and too weak.

Remember, it's not fascism if we're oppressing MY political enemies.

Let's just make this crystal clear because you are missing this.

Crowds spread COVID if no social distancing / masks / control over numbers

Protests do not spread COVID UNLESS they include the above.

Jordan was trying to get Fauci to say 'protests spread COVID'. Now some may say this is arguing the toss over words but these are very important words. When fauci is quoted as saying 'protests spread COVID' (which he DID NOT SAY) the press and Trump would jump on it to stop ALL protests.

It is subtle but crucial

Tactic notwithstanding, objective was clear--apply the First Amendment freedom of assembly clause equally with attending church and protesting:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Peaceably assemble to freely exercise religious rites...peaceably assemble to petition the government...equally applicable? How far does the Executive Branch's authority to apply exceptions based on (potential) risk to public health and safety extend?

In the end, it's a matter of interpretation and probably a question more appropriate for the courts than for a public health official.

Agree, but Fauci doesn't make the decisions he only advises. (OK in practice he will have his own agenda but on the whole I think he keeps his nose reasonably clean)

As you say, how do you decide which forms of large gathering are allowed? If you say church gatherings are fine, you have to consider the different religions and how those gatherings take place and what format they take. There is a big difference between a tin church in the country with 5 people in it and a large city celebration of Eid. Or a household celebration of Eid and a large Thanksgiving celebration. Pretty certain whatever you do somebody will be upset !

The protests in the US were not compliant anyway when the crowds got so big and nobody was observing social distancing etc.

The protests in Germany yesterday were not compliant

The protests in the UK recently were not compliant

There was a real concern in the UK a few weeks back that social unrest would risk all of the gains made from lockdown - fortunately at that time it didn't happen. Compliance with restrictions has to be embraced by the public through encouragement as much as enforcement - a real balancing act. Neither will work in isolation. In general in the UK support for COVID measures has been pretty good, even with recent localised action, but as time goes by it will take more and more to keep people onboard.

The only way we will ever keep the lid on this problem (once under control) is by taking individual social responsibility, which is what separates us from the savages and animals. Sadly some are not that well separated !

Protests were not compliant with what? There are no nationally applicable laws or policies that made them non-compliant. Seems like the gist of the congressman's questioning was to establish grounds for the government to restrict protests, which obviously were not established.
