The EPA regs are the only reason for this. The demand for V8s in performance cars has not slowed, only the conditions that permit them to stay in the mainstream.

The sports coupe buyer is increasingly concerned with fuel economy, but it is still far down the list of reasons to buy.
If history repeats itself, the ford GT 3.5 will end up in a mustang gt500/mach1 whatever it'll be called. You'll see. They are using the 3.5 ecoboost in f150, flex, Taurus, raptors, GT, the mustang is next.

Completely agree that it will, or something like it. The question is when. I'd give it till at least 2022/2023MY till it replaces the V8. We might see them alongside each other from 2020, though.

FYI:
June Car and Driver arrived today.
Comparison test between two practically identical F150s. One had the 3.5 EB and the other was powered by the 5.0.
The EB bested the 5.0.
More importantly, the author reports rumors that the 5.0 will be pulled from the F150 next year.
Dark clouds may already be gathering for the V8 Mustang faithful.

Yikes!!

Why didn't you get a used Tesla, then?
That is just a silly ass question. But if I must....

No manual transition
300 mile ranged dependent on charging stations that do not exist
Battery technology is not there yet. replaced in how many years?

Nothing special yet
If anything I think they'll shrink in capacity first.

All vehicles are going to have to get lighter, this is the one "fairly easy" (not necessarily cheap though) area to gain fuel economy. With lighter cars, smaller V8s are going to fare much better in terms of vehicle performance than they would with current cars.

There's some small (like the Daimler SP250 Dart 2.5L V8) that sound good, nice and deep too. If it produces 300HP and decent torque, in a car (weight and gearing-wise) that gives it fun performance, what's not to love? And it'll get better mileage too!

Hell we already have a 350hp 2.3L 4 bangers. Most muscle cars of the 60s or even today don't make that kind of power! It's only getting better. And smaller engines are doing more with less. Look at the 2.7 ecoboost f150. Does more then the 5.3 Chevy or 5.7 hemi.

Unequivocally false.

I have a 2012 f150 fx2 5.0 and also a 2016 regular cab short bed f150 2.7 ecoboost. The 2.7 is faster. I know it weighs less, but it's still an impressive engine and tows my 2016 GT350 around without a problem.

Calm down. All I'm saying is synthetic fuel is not going to save the V8 (which was your obvious assertion). I highly doubt synthetic fuel cars will be anything like a traditional gas powered V8 (you know, the sound everyone seems to be worried about). If anything, they'll probably be smaller since they can be more efficient than a gas engine.

Screaming, come on; I made a passing comment. Not sure why that struck a nerve, unless you own a Tesla with "I'm saving the world" vanity plates.
You have no idea what you are talking about.

The top of the line Mustangs will always have two features. Rear wheel drive and V8 engines.

I don't care about EPA OR MPG. But you can not dismiss the facts. Larger engines are on the way out like it or not. It's a proven fact. When's the last time you seen a big block in a car? dont tell me the 6.2 or 6.4L is a big block either. Big v8's and small v8's are becoming a thing of the past. Cars will and are gettig smaller and so are the engines. It's already here. I'll put my yearly income in it. In less then 10 years ford won't have a v8 car.
You clearly have little knowledge in how this all works. GM has a 6.2L getting 30mpg and the current 5.0 gets 26 without cylinder deactivation or even a full aluminum body. Ford can make a mustang with a 5.0 get 30+ right now if they want. You need to hit up Google.

Wow well thanks for the insult. Show me real world 6.2 or 5.0 getting 26-30 mpg. You can't. And don't tell me it's coming because it's not. And GM doesn't make a 5.0 it's a 5.3. Do you believe everything you read on the Internet? I can tell by your response that you're a young kid and can't read the writing on the wall. Ford offers just one V8 option in 2 vehicles. The 5.0 in the mustang and f150. That's it son. And we're not talking about trucks over 1/2 tons.

Just read in Car & Driver that the F150 is rumored to not be getting the V8 option next year.

June 2016, Pg 63.

Will that have an impact on them continuing with the Mustang. I hope not.
