People either forgot or don't know that Hitler was pretty popular in the US before WW2 kicked off. The US branch of the Nazi Party was rather large, they had massive rallies all over the US. The right-wing element in congress loved what Hitler represented when compared to the idea of socialists taking root (everything is socialism when the right don't want it), and they were fully prepared to support an American version of Hitler if the alternative was socialism taking root. Hell, there was even a real secret plot to launch a fascist coup, headed by none other than Senator Charles Lindbergh.

That tendency hasn't died out; it never went away. Just look at how gullible people are on any media platform. People LOVE to find hate groups that are convenient scapegoats. Everything is bad except for what they say, everything is spam except for the confirmation bias articles they post, etc.

It isn't hard to see how authoritarianism can take over. Look into "The Third Wave" an experiment, where a high school teacher created a fascist movement that took over his school and spread to neighboring schools in a few days.

Hell just look at our history with the likes of McCarthyism and/or Russian geopolitics - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics
The BIG LIE. Hitler learned a great deal from the D party and put it to use with despicable effect. The Yale History department refuses to debate Dinesh, they are afraid of him for good reason. They can't paint him with the white patriarchal male tag. And of course, his scholarship crushes the Big Lie like the odious piece of socialist crap that it is.

"I am not suggesting that Hitler derived his racism, his appetite for conquest, or his willingness to sterilize and euthanize his fellow citizens from American Democrats. He did, however, learn how to frame his policies of racial discrimination and Nordic supremacy, his lebensraum strategy of mass displacement and subjugation, and his genocidal mechanisms for exterminating the “unfit,” from his fellow leftists and progressives in the United States."

This is the disgraceful legacy of the Democratic left. Scholars and media pundits who know this history are deeply frightened by it. They realize that if young people discover it, if it comes to become widely known, then the whole progressive Democratic project will be discredited. No longer will progressives be able to pose as the part of the good, the true and the beautiful; on the contrary, they will be exposed as a partly complicit in racism, mass murder and genocide.

From the perspective of its birthplace, NAZIism is considered an extreme right movement. Communism is considered leftist.
You really are wasting your time. Facts don't matter to some.

Sadly this twisted narrative, even brainwashing, is typical of extremist views, left or right.

Some on here will argue black is white and vice versa.

What would be nice is a political thread where reasonable discussion could be had that doesn't just involve pointless extreme rhetoric and discussion of the real issues and policies from all parties. Maybe the whole US could do with that as well so that a constructive middle ground could be found for the country. One thing is for certain - extremes never work and the only people who really influence an election are those middle ground people who vote based on policies at the time. Sadly those people get insulted on here as 'flippers' or 'sheep' because they don't hold blind unquestionable views.

In the UK the situation is a little different as the middle ground is the majority and so extremes never really prosper. Corbyn lost the recent election because he was far too left wing, Boris really didn't have to much more than turn up to win.

The irony is that in the UK I'm considered right of centre in my views and yet on here I'm a lefty raging commie (although how some who post on here would have a clue I don't know - other than disagreeing with them means I must be a commie). I believe that indicates just how right wing the US is as a baseline ? Some of the drivel posted on here about socialism (the great evil it seems) is hilarious, the US has no idea what socialism is compared to many countries. There are many very successful socialist countries with happy populaces, not extreme commie lefties, just moderate socialism. In fact even recently the UK under Tony Blair had a left of centre government that was very successful and the country did very well under their leadership. It was popular because it was just left of centre not raving left of centre.

Time for moderate Republicans and Democrats to stand up and maybe find a middle way ?

BLM = terrorist organization? Maybe that rhetoric works on a KKK website. Peaceful protest is their goal... unfortunately, you have all types of people show up - like this forum. Did you see the video of the BLM members surrounding a store to protect it when looters showed up? Guess not...

If BLM are heavily armed, they should be... and within their constitutional right or does that only apply to "certain" groups? Is that wrong? Why did you even mention it?

Considering the peaceful activists walking from Wisconsin to DC were shot at, I'd be armed as well.

I think everyone should carry... which is why I support a nationwide conceal weapon carry law.

Well they saved that one business. Most places have curfews anyway, so BLM activists should have already departed when the looters and rioters arrive.

Imagine being so simple-minded that you can't do the tiniest bit of research because it would ruin your confirmation bias. It's actually pathetic that people have to make things up in order to act as if they're correct. Typical white supremacist agenda.

Yeah, Breitbart is a site for the alt-right, aka, 4chan, drudge report, infowars, conspiracy theory, white nationalist media.

"The site has published a number of conspiracy theories[12][13] and intentionally misleading stories.[14][15]

Breitbart News aligned with the alt-right under the management of former executive chairman Steve Bannon,[16] who declared the website "the platform for the alt-right" in 2016.[17] In 2016, Breitbart News became a virtual rallying spot for supporters of Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.[11] The company's management, together with former staff member Milo Yiannopoulos, solicited ideas for stories from, and worked to advance and market ideas of, neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups and individuals.[18][19] After the election, more than 2,000 organizations removed Breitbart News from ad buys following Internet activism campaigns denouncing the site's controversial positions.[20][21][22][23]"

Maybe you prove otherwise rather than using mental gymnastics to make things up. Crazy to think you'd need to actually prove something than to just post memes and photos and say they're something their not.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — NBA games will resume Saturday after an agreement was reached between league governors and players on a series of social justice initiatives that will end a three-day shutdown caused by the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision not to take the court for a playoff game Wednesday to protest the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis.

They literally have BLM on the court, hauling BLM protestors doesn't seem like that big of a SJI leap now does it.

Honestly, they shouldn't even play. I'd be much happier if they stuck to their stance, had a backbone, didn't listen to Obama; and held out on playing all sports.

What's the worst that could happen another peaceful protestor gets assassinated like MLK?

You really are wasting your time. Facts don't matter to some.

Sadly this twisted narrative, even brainwashing, is typical of extremist views, left or right.

Some of the drivel posted on here about socialism (the great evil it seems) is hilarious, the US has no idea what socialism is compared to many countries. There are many very successful socialist countries with happy populaces, not extreme commie lefties, just moderate socialism. I agree with you in principle, and like you wish there was a place to simply have a civil, respectful discussion without all the vitriol and name calling. Funny thing is, the name calling would definitely not happen in person. Anyway, speaks volumes about the person levying insults.

On the other hand, challenging misinformation is always worthwhile. Not doing so is undermining our democracy. When someone is provided with facts and responds with insults, the facts still win.

As for outcomes being determined by the center, I differ with that assessment. I think instead the pendulum continues to swing between illogical extremes. Each seeks vindication. I also think that our refusal to understand issues is reflective of our broader social laziness. We see it in our fitness (lack there of), our drug abuse, our lack of fiscal discipline, etc. For the most part, what is true of the U.S. is true of the UK in that regard.

Finally, as for socialism, I don't know of any socialist states that have succeeded. I think we are confusing socialism with social welfare. With socialism the government controls the means of production; i.e., there is no (or minimal) private enterprise. The type of wealth redistribution that we are seeing (and debating on the fringes) is welfare, not socialism. In this sense, (I believe) the contemporary conditions being described have outstripped the dated paradigms being used to describe them.
