Well my post in another thread has yielded nothing so here goes.
What is the widest and 'bestest' all season high performance tire I can use for my rears?
Preferably 19" but 18-20 okay. My car is not a daily driver per se, but I will drive when it's cold here, like in the teens *F, so summer tires are out.
Ideally I'll find a nice pair of CS wheels and have them widened to match the preferred tires and go staggered. My stockers are hanging in there so I have some time before I actually need new tires, but these Ps kind of suck.

First you need to decide on a wheel and width, then we can recommend tires.

Like I said, "Ideally I'll find a nice pair of CS wheels and have them widened to match the preferred tires and go staggered." So that would be 19 x 'whatever is required' to match the widest and best all season tire.
It may seem backwards to some, but I am placing priority on the tires for now.
Widening 2 stock rims could be as expensive as a new set of wheels but will retain the CS look.

On the old Mach1 I had 285/40r18(101Y) max perf. summer tires, Continental Extreme Contact DW, which were fine for my fair weather driver. But that won't do on the GT/CS.

if you can get them widened to the proper offset at 11" you could easily fit a 305/30/19, but not many if any are made for all season.

Conti DWS widest is a 295/30/19, would fit on a 10" wheel
Ill vouch for theses as being an excellent all around choice.

I have 315/35/20 Continental DWS06. They work great.
Thanks...tire rack info sez;

285/35ZR19 99Y 26.9"dia, about the same as now

285/30ZR20 99W 26.7"dia, a bit smaller
295/40ZR20 110W 29.3"dia, way big
315/35ZR20 110Y 28.7"dia, seems kind of big for my 3.15 gears, but probably fine if FI.

What gears do you have?

I can't find the 295/30/19 DWS...which would be an inch shorter anyway. I can't lower my car due to my driveway...I learned that the hardway with my Mach1, had to get taller tires and new rims due to the snowball effect.

3.31 (manual)

It's a tall combo for sure. I think 315/30/20 is the height equivalent.
I was hoping you had some pix in your album so I could check it out.

285/40R19 = 28"dia, not too bad I guess. Would fill the gap a bit, but be 3.5% off from stock front tires. I forgot what the limit is for front to rear difference and traction control and/or ABS...it might be close.

If you're not driving on snow, get summer tires. I'm running indy500 summer tires year round in ohio. Car has seen snow, slush, cold, salt, rain, etc...

It won't go anywhere with snow on the roads, but it works just fine with an adult behind the wheel in anything but.

Well I did drive in the cold but dry in my Mach1 before selling it but how do summer tires last? I've read about them cracking over time...
