why does everyone want to spin the coyote up to 8000 plus?

When the peak power is almost always at 7200-7500 ish why does everyone want to spin it up so high?
This seems like diminishing returns. I see thread after thread and comments where everyone wants to spin it to 8500. Excluding the gt350, that is.

lots of posts or comments about bump the rev limiter and spin it to 8000! A lot of these with the intake shootouts or the CJ dyno videos.

They only do so with the proper manifold and/or cams. Noone in their right mind is spinning a GT manifold (gen 2 or 3) to 8000+.

With the GT350 and/or CJ, while peak power may only be in the mid 7000s, those manifolds carry the power further rather than it dropping like a rock. If power remains flat, it's good for acceleration to keep pushing it as it means no drop in power and then the next shift means a higher RPM thus pulling faster.

all about average power and rpm drop. i tune a few max effort 8-9 sec all motor hondas that make peak power at around 9800 but shift near 11000 for best ET. too low and the rpm drop puts it in a place that its not making spectacular power.

coyote engines arent as peaky as what im talking about but im sure its not far fetched that an 8000 rpm shift with peak at 7500 isnt crazy thinking. depending on if its holding power or nose diving after 7500. ive seen some gen 2 graphs that really fall off hard compared to gen 3 that make pretty good power after peak.

probably makes a much bigger difference on a 6 speed car than 10r80 (has very little rpm drop)

With an 18 manifold, you're done at 7600 about. My rev limiter is at 8200 so I don't actually bounce off it. I'm usually shifting by 7500-7600 rpm if I am up that high.

My engine so far has spent about 40 hours in total above 6000rpm. I trust it for another 40.

You're stuck in 1970's mindset if you think your engine is going to explode the second it goes over 6000rpm.
Cool story....

I don't trust MY engine.
