Hey guys, I’m in the process of selling my C7Z, and looking to get into a 18+ S550. I want to set it up for 1/4 and 1/2 mile stuff. In the Corvette world, 15’s are what all the fast guys are running, but over here it seems like all the fast guys are running 17’s. I’m wondering why. I see some of these cars running low 8’s cutting 1.1 and 1.2 60 ft. times on a 17. Obviously those are great 60 ft. times, but wouldn’t a 15 be even better? Doesn’t more sidewall = more traction? I realize you need drag brakes in the rear, and you lose the parking brake...but that’s not really a big deal for the A10 cars anyway and the brakes are cheap. Thanks in advance!

I think if you look hard the dedicated drag guys are running them. For most, the compromise of losing your braking isn't worth the gains.

I would think the dedicated drag guys were running them too, but it doesn’t seem like they are.

All these guys are running 17’s.

Most of the braking is from the front brakes, so you could keep the big brakes up front and just have the drag brakes in the rear if that’s the concern.

Because you can cut 1.2 60 fts on a 17", and also because without a custom rear knuckle AND rear brake changes, you can't run wider than a 15x9.

Most all the guys hauling ass on a 17" are on radials. The extra sidewall isn't as critical on a radial tire as it is a bias tire. And radials are SOOOO much more stable at speed.
