Who will trade their S550 up for an S650 just because it’s new?

Probably because I was younger then, bit I loved the modern look of the SN95 and when the 197 came out I thought it looked HORRIBLE and screamed "lets pander to old people and nostalgia!". The only people that at the time I knew liked it were all well over 50. it wasn't till the 2010 refresh that I actually liked them. and even then felt the bland flat panels on everything interior were garbage.
I was 45 when the S197 came out and I loved it. :) (Exterior, not so much the interior.) The foxes and SN95s were OK (new edge definitely better looking than early SN95s) but they just never looked much like Mustangs to me. The S197 was clearly overdue for a change by 2015, though.

Unless Ford makes it lighter, at least s197 curb weight spec, and sorts out QC shenanigans like underfilled trans fluid or 401A trim with constantly buzzing interior panels, I'll pass. Latest and greatest tech and other gimmicks are no interest to me.

I’ve got 18K on it in 3 years. If I can get 200K out of it, at this rate, I’ll be pushing 90 (assuming I’m even still alive). And, if I am, I’ll just move to Cuba and probably have the newest hot rod on the block.

My 18’ is fairly new and paid off and I have no desire to start the process again.

New cars prices are getting out of hand so I really don’t see me getting a S650.

Anyone remember 1974? The all new mustang....... I dont think the next gen will be a drastic flop like the mustang II was but it sounds like they are planning some drastic changes which may turn people off. Rather than poor performance and styling i think the new gen will be to expensive and to far away from the roots of the pony car to keep the loyalist around.

I won't get an S650 when it first comes out, that's for sure. I'll wait until just before it gets a refresh and by then I'll have paid off my EcoBoost in full.

A Mustang with AWD and a naturally-aspirated V8 with potentially EcoBoost fuel economy through hybridization would be a near irresistible combination for me.

That said, I'm also a much more general car enthusiast. The upcoming Nissan Z (whatever it ends up being called) is probably the only other coupe I'm interested in as the '90s 300zx was my original "first love" car. Or I may get what I originally planned on getting, potentially even going the complete opposite direction of value performance, a midsize hybrid sedan.

We'll see where I'm at in four years or so. :turkey:

Gotten? Been that way for 30+years.

In 89 you could buy a nicely loaded Mustang GT for 15k MSRP, by 1999 a loaded Escort was 16k.
Just 10 years.
Now a shitty ass EcoSport that's slower and worse on MPG than that 1999 Escort, STARTS at over 19K. A fully loaded EcoSport is just 2k less than a 2010 Mustang GT base price.
LOL, I graduated from university in 1987 and my dad offered to provide the financing for a new car, as the job that I was taking would involve travelling around the Toronto region, and my current ride was a 1979 Austin Mini. I considered buying a Mustang LX coupe with the V8, which was just over CDN$12K at the time, but ended up with a Tempo 2 dr, which was $9,995. Big mistake (both the job and choice of car). Things change and you can't go back in time, not unless you're willing to submit to an economic meltdown which would make 2008 look like a blip. Luckily, when I bought the current car, it was with the clear thought that it would be my last purchase, and will serve me until I can't get in and out of it or they take my license away.

Nope. I went full in getting a Mach 1 even though I got it below MSRP. I plan on keeping this thing for a long, long time. I think the S550 is the best mustang design (69 is a close second) so I think Ford would be foolish to stray too far from it (but Mach E shows they really don't care about heritage anymore). The Mach 1 has the best front end of the S550 run (ok, GT350 is right there with it). I have a loud stock exhaust, track capability if I want to do that, magneride, and plenty of power. Those were all of my boxes and this beast clicked all of them.

My 19’ GT/CS was my retirement gift to myself. Had a 15’ EB that was very reliable for 51k miles. But I had to have one more V8, so the CS was it. I plan on having it for 10 years. But you never know.

I'll hang on to my 2020 GT for a long time. It looks better and handles better than any other car I've owned. I think they reached the zenith of Mustang design with the 18+ S550. I hate to judge the S650 before it's out but I really am in awe of this car.

I’m no clairvoyant and anything could happen but I totally agree with this. In order to be considered technically superior to the S550 they’ll have to increase weight, which is the last thing it needs. So what if an ICE with an electric assist is faster? It’s already faster than most people’s capabilities anyway, and where on the street these days can you really turn an ‘18-‘21 loose?

Hope I’m wrong.
