Cylinder Deactivation is nothing new...
Really?.....I didn't know that.
LOL!

After GM's and Ford's 1st attempt at this mess? I was fed up with it.
I remember driving a neighbor's Caddy back in the mid 80's just after I
got my driving permit.
He hated that car and always handed me the keys........cracks me up to this very day.

......and yes, Ford did play around with this concept way back then.

I stand corrected.....some other media outlets have stated wrong.
Not a fan of cylinder deactivation......nothing but a headache.
All good and agreed.

The Cadillac 4.1L was too advanced for the computer technology at the time. The controller for the cylinder de/activation just wasn't advanced enough to be able to properly handle the changing road conditions quick enough. GM just didn't do enough testing of the tech before pushing it through to production. Which was not unlike a lot of things GM did (or didn't) do. Probably some GM exec demanded this get green lighted and put into Cadillac within some super short period of time, despite everyone telling him the technology wasn't quite ready. "WELL, MAKE IT READY!"

Ford isn't out of the woods either, as of the 4 Ford vehicles I've owned, only one didn't leak oil all over the front suspension when trying to change the oil filter (1987 Mercury Lynx). I don't know why Ford can't design a vehicle that has an accessible oil filter. And we can't forget about the never buy 5.4 3V.

GM and Mopar both use much larger displacement engines.
Both get around the same fe or better than the 5.0, please explain why?
just as I thought you couldn't get any dumber.. you had to go one up yourself.

Seriously......you need to check the fe of all three in their respected shared markets.
Pretty even regardless of displacement.
This goes for emissions too.

Please don't quote back Ford's advertised fe claims, they're in enough hot water.

For all the naysayers out there......"Ford Mustang EcoBoost" on Facebook has a new post where a 5.3 LS Chevy is being swapped.
Mustang 6G would not allow me to tag them......

This makes me sick and makes me more determined to do a 7.3 swap.

My dear Erik...

There is more to life than cars.

There is more to this thread than a 7.3 swap.

You came here for a social reason.

And you got it in spades.

So let it go.

Thanks to Erik427 for posting on this thread I was introduced to the Yellow Bullet forum. I find the forum quite interesting. I enjoyed reading the Factory Stock thread. Quite interesting.
