Whipple Stage 1 or 2?

Stage 2.

Although stage 1 has been good to me for 2+ years now, I should have listened to those on here who told me to go with 2 in the beginning. It's never enough, and you'll spend more upgrading to 2 later on if you go that route.

Although, stage 1 kit (I have the GEN3 setup), is still plenty of fun and reliable as heck. My car really only gets driven when it goes to the dragstrip, with a few small trips here and there. 2+ years, and 10k miles so far on the Whipple setup.

Is the extra cost of the Whipple stage 2 worth it? Could someone explain the benefits of stage 2 vs 1?
Really comes down to what your full goals are with the car. If you're going with the complete kit the Stage 2 is going to come with the DW400 pump to flow more fuel, smaller pulley for a little more boost and then the 132mm throttle body that flows extremely well. The Stage 2 is going to make a little more power as well with the upgraded tuning.

If you're looking at the tuner kit the Stage 2 will come with the larger throttle body and smaller pulley. With custom tuning and more airflow with the Stage 2 will make more power over the Stage 1 for sure as well.

If you don't intend to ever add any more power to a daily driver, stage 1 is fun for a few less bucks. You're still talking >$9k installed though. Why go cheap? I bought a '15 with a stage 1 with the intent to upgrade when I bought it. I just bought the Stage 1 to Stage 2 upgrade kit. $1,700. +$500 install. HIGHLY recommended OPG\Crank Sproket $350 + $1,200 install. Then of course the retune. Just do it right the first time if you're spending this much money.

I highly recommend to my customers to go stage 2 from the beginning. If you're on this forum and looking at a Whipple it means you like HP. Eventually you're going to want that extra power and it's way more costly to upgrade from the stage 1 to the stage to then if you just went stage 2 from the beginning. I've even had customer say to me after installing the stage one for bit come back and say I was right and they should have listened to me. lol

I've been debating this tradeoff as well. My only concern with stage 2 is that my son is taking my other car to college so the mustang will be my daily driver. I wasn't sure that the stage 2 would be good as a daily driver. Anyone daily driving a stage 2?

They drive identical to each other. The only time you'll notice the difference is when you mash the pedal to the floor. Otherwise both stages drive like stock and are great for daily driving.

I cannot speak for stage 2 personally, but looking through the tune vs my stage 1 tune, like Lethal Performance said, they both will drive the same less the WOT power output.

Stage 1 drives excellent. I have owned this car since it was nearly new, and entirely stock. After the stage 1 install, I didn't even know the blower was there less a little whistle at idle. Until you reach around 1/2 throttle or so, you'll never even know any different driveability wise.

My stage 2 Whipple (purchased through Lethal!) car drives great with the provided Whipple tune. No complaints at all. Car made great power too. I don't hesitate to drive the car anywhere. Passed Illinois emissions with flying colors as well. Stage 2 and don't look back!

It is most certainly well worth going with the Stage 2 kit over the Stage 1. The large mouth throttle body, injectors, and DW400 fuel pump really bump up the horsepower over the Stage 1.
