if they come out with an 8 speed auto, i would consider buying it the next time around. even though it's boring AF, it would be fun to take to the 1/4 mile and also do some stoplight racing with it.
just take a look at how much faster the challenger scat pack auto is compared to the 6 speed manual.
I think 10 speed is waaaay to much. When 8 speeds came around I thought it was already at the maximum. 10 speed is going to have shifts every 700 RPMS or something?
I've experienced the latest 8-speed ZF in a BMW 235i and it is a SUPERB gearbox, managing to be in the right gear for any occasion. It makes the 6-speed in my BMW 535 feel ancient, slow and cumbersome. You can bet ZF will be going for a 10-speed next time around.
Jumping straight to a 10-speed probably future-proofs the Ford auto g/box for a good few years. I'm looking forward to it and it is probably the one thing that would prevent my from buying an S550 right now.
Land Rover already use a 9-speed in some of their cars.
I'm surprised there's so much negativity towards what could be an absolute corker of a gearbox for the Mustang!
