Didn't say "and other" stupid things...wasn't describing track or drag strip in the same context. Sorry if it sounded that way. I will let the "stupid things" refer to whatever someone considers "stupid."

It sounded like you weren't sure. Aside from all the jokes, 1 year or when yoir OLM says so. I believe your OLM also will direct you to change if you hit the 1 year mark.

And for what it's worth.... I have had oil analized by blackstone that is beyond the 1 year mark and aside from all the jokes, the oil is good for far longer periods.

I think you intentionally left out a "y/" Makes it funnier that was though.

I hate typing messages/emails on a computer. At my age I forget all kinds of crap when I type.

Have a great day Tomster

I just purchased one of those oil funnel kits for my Shelby from Jon. So I drained the 10 quarts from my car in one drain pan, Drained the oil from my wife's Edge, then poured the Edges oil into the Shelby, and the 10 quarts from the Shelby into the Edge.
That is an oil change ? Right ? šŸ¤”
You better believe it is. Just make sure you change that oil filter once a decade or so.

I guess I'm still confused based on some of the comments here. Let me ask a "basic" question.

SHOULD I GO BY THE OIL LIFE MONITOR BUILT IN TO THE CAR'S TECHNOLOGY?? SEEMS TO ME THEY WOULDN'T HAVE IT THERE IF IT WASN'T RELIABLE.
I JUST DRIVE THE CAR "NORMALLY" (NO TRACK, DRAGSTRIP, STUPID THINGS). PUT MAYBE 10-12K ON A YEAR.

WHEN THE OLM SAYS LESS THAT 20% I USUALLY MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR OIL AND FILTER CHANGE. AM I RIGHT OR NOT?

Going by the oil life monitor is fine. You're not going to hurt the motor by doing that. Yes, maybe you can stretch out the oil change intervals longer and save a few bucks. But in the grand scheme of things an oil change isn't all that expensive, especially if it's on the order of every 10,000 miles or 1 year.

Keep in mind the OLM is a dumb instrument. It's based on time and/or miles driven. It might have some algorithm that accounts for the type of driving but it doesn't know anything about the condition of the oil. It's a glorified countdown clock for people who don't remember when they last changed their oil.

It's funny, even funnier than this thread, that you in a round about way just classified activities the car was built for in the same context as stupid things.

It's even funnier that nobody gets the humor of the OPs post.

Me? I laughed my ass off at the original post and some of the replies. An afterthought... I should have replied with my caps lock on.
To be fair I think most people understood the humor in OP’s post. If I had to guess I would say anyone taking anything in this thread seriously would be in the minority. That being said, my first thought when I read the post was that it was a duplicate of a legitimate post on a Corvette forum (think about how many Corvettes are sold each year and the mechanical ability of SOME Corvette buyers).

No, no, no... That would be an oil ex-change. Oil changes are when you switch brands every time, using the cheapest stuff you can find. I have discovered that at yard sales the tin topped cardboard quarts are super economical.

What a great idea, just think of the money you saved on buying oil.

I have a 7.3 Diesel and it uses 4 gallons. Maybe I should save that oil and dump it in the R....

And may I add that 7.3 diesel deathtrap has about 750,000 miles on it, so I would say Jim's oil recommendations are sound advice.

Jim, one of these days that beater, with about 20 degrees of play in the steering wheel, will finally let go. I hope you aren't far away from home when that happens. If it does by me, you can crash at my place. And no, you can't borrow any of the 350s or 500, lol

And as an added bonus, you won't have to check the oil in your "R" as often, because you will have 4 gallons in it instead of 10 puny quarts.....
Worked for me with the wife's Edge....:like:

Yea, just take the old oil and run it through a coffee filter. It will be good for another 10,000 miles. Repeat as necessary.

I really really really really hope this is a troll post....but if it isnt...DO NOT EVER RELY ON SOMEONE ELSE TO TELL YOU WHEN TO CHANGE YOUR OIL!!!

The maintenance on your vehicle is up to YOU and YOU ALONE!!!

Your car has a scheduled maint guide, follow it. In your case, with 15000 miles and that many track days....you are wwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyy overdue! I just have a regular GT...first oil change was at 2500, 2nd at 5000, 3rd at 10000 and just did 4th at 15000 miles and this is without any track days on synthetic oil. I hope there is nothing wrong with your car because there is a possibilty if there is something it will not be covered under warranty if they can prove lack of maintenance is the reason something failed. Get the next possible day for an oil change and really have them go over the car.
Steve, you nailed it. These cars should never go over 5000 miles for a routine oil change. I change mine on a regular basis at every 5000 mile interval.
