Long story short.....I got every warning light notification a few weeks ago on my 22 MACh1. Took it to the dealer Monday and they told me the R/F wheel bearing/tone ring had come apart. They ordered the part and I took it in this morning to be fixed. Within minutes they came back to tell me the wrong part was delivered, but the car was apart, and they needed to keep it overnight as the new part would arrive late this afternoon. They also told me that they couldn't put the car back together and would give me a loaner. I went back into the service bay with the tech and was surprised what he showed me. Seems the factory did not properly tighten the hub/bearing as the bolts were loose when he removed it and that this was common. He also told me he was going to check the other 3 to see if they were properly torqued and free of damage. Pic for your enjoyment!!

Sad that it is a common problem. Did the tech say he has seen it on all models?

Yes....and F150's. What's even sadder is that the bolts are 1 time use and no stock available with no ETA. So they just put it back together with LocTite til new bolts are available!

From reading elsewhere, Ford only calls the bolts one time use only because they come with thread locker pre-applied. They are not torque-to-yield bolts, so they can be reused, they just need to be cleaned well (wire brush), and have thread locker re-applied before installation.

There’s a lot of S550 wheel bearing failures (many older threads documenting the issue on this site) been a problem since the first S550 was rolled out. People have had failures like yours with very low miles and some have even had the assemblies replaced as many as 3x under warranty.

Driver’s rear is most common because engine Torque loosens the nut. Gotta threadlock red that one.

I just had to replace my 2 front wheel hubs a month ago. I couldn't figure out what was wrong for over 2 weeks. The car didn't throw any lights. I just heard what sounded like a grinding whirling noise. The car also seemed to be unstable like it was about to slip and fall. Once it was on a lift you couldn't spin either tire in a full rotation, without it getting halfway through a rotation and grinding to a halt. I had them replaced and I could never figure why both of those went out at the same time. I didn't know this was a common problem.
