Says the guy who wishes he had a Voodoo with forged pistons.
I do like the ā€œspecialā€ feeling of the Shelby cars but Iā€™m honestly super content with my boosted coyote, I wouldnā€™t make the trade.

It has to do with a sticky Solenoid on the exhaust side of the Cam banks. I had it repaired on my 5.0. Just take it in and replicate it for the techs. Hold gas at about 2.2K rpms and let off. Should let you replicate the rattle. Then have them unplug the solenoid and it will disappear.

That's a separate issue. The coyote 2k rattle doesn't occur on deceleration like the F150s. Only on slight tip-in acceleration around 1700-2200k Letting off the gas actually makes it stop.

Because Gen 1 and 2s didn't have the typical 2k rattle in question. It seems unique the gen 3s. Which leads me to believe it has something to do with the port to direct injection transition. I'm not sure if the gen 4s have it.

? I think you misread my post...šŸ¤”
No I did and youre wrong. The "problem" is you are hearing the cam phasers moving the cams around at that RPM window. This is all classic TI-VCT and has been since 2011. There has been TSBs since then to adjust the TIVCT cam positions in the tune from Ford to quiet them down. But they make a lot of noise more-so when its cold until the oil can get up to them. Then from there you will hear them from time to time as the cams are transitioning from one map point to the next. Its funny how tribal knowledge from back in 2011 to now gets lost as OG coyote owners come and go.

Personally I've owned 7 5.0s starting in 2011 and going through every gen up to 2022. They all did it, and all yours does it as well. From job1 2011s to now.

Difference in environmental scenarios like how loud your exhaust is or how bad your hearing might be or how sensitive to engine noise you might be all play a part in who hears and it and who doesnt. Its not PI/DI noise, its not piston slap or the BBQ noise. Hell Ford has instructions specifically for techs to not replace parts or perform services for noises heard in this manner as well as the BBQ tick and piston slap type noises.

Thats asinine. The tech who did that should be charged back for that service. Unplugging the solenoid is just stopping it from moving the cam and actually functioning. This is what its supposed to do. Thats like saying my dish washer is broken because it makes dish washing noises, but when I unplug it it stops. So I will replace the dishwasher...LOL

Wow. Opinionated much?

The 2k rattle we are discussing is not the same cam phaser noise you are lecturing about. The TSB you are referring to is NOT the same thing we are discussing.

I never heard this on any of my gen 1 or gen 2 coyotes, nor have I heard or read of anyone other gen 1 or 2 owner saying they did (except you).

Its very pronounced on the gen 3s, and yes, those all have it to some degree. I never said mine didn't have it.

Yes the 2k rattle is cam phaser. Yes there have been a few TSBs since 2011 to update TIVCT settings to quiet the rattle.

Its not the phasers, no other tivct ford engine has this specific 2k rattle. Yet they have the same phasers. All 3 gens of coyote have different tivct systems and phaser designs.

Doesn't the DI pump run off of one of the cams?

I think everyone in this thread has missed the original post that stated this was in a 5.2 Voodoo from a GT350 and not a Coyote motor. Unless this distinction doesn't matter and I'm taking crazy pills.

I also get a decent amount of audible piston slap with light throttle between 2-3k when the engine is warming up, literally 100% of the time I've had the car. Oil consumption has never been a huge issue and never changed though. 25k miles on mine as a daily.
