Nothing really idiotic, but my wife is continually amazed at guys reactions to the car. To her is a just a pretty black car.

My wife is not a car girl. She had zero interest in my SVO or anything else that is sporty, but she is a peach of a girl and she supports my interests. To her this is a car that is too loud and not as comfy as a nice ride in the F-350. I stopped at a store to pick up a couple of things I had ordered, she happily waited in the car. According to her a guy pulls up in a truck and sits staring at the Shelby is all of it's freshly waxed, black on black glory. Then he pulls across from the car and stares for a a few more minutes, as he gets out and stands there admiring the car he realizes she is sitting there reading a magazine and apologizes for the stares, he told her it was a beautiful car and he has always wanted one since he read about them in 2015. She seriously does not understand why guys like cars so much, she would rather be higher up with more view of the road.

Next time out we stopped at Costco and parked in the back 40 to avoid door dingers. As we are loading up a guy drives over and stops, says he loves the car, asks a few questions and said he wishes he had the nerve to buy one but his better half doesn't approve, drives off smiling. Went to a friends house for a bbq after that stop. A random kid in tuned GTI stops, rings doorbell and asks if it is okay to take pictures.

Two weeks ago we did our summer road trip thru the mountains. Stopped at last gas station for 75 miles to top off, just in case. Guy in motorhome behind us waiting on the pump rolls down window and asks, "Is it fast?" I replied, "It will get past anything but a gas station, hahaha." He says, "It sure looks fast, even sitting still."

There are maybe five GT350's in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, two or three guys post here. It is a very uncommon car in my region. Hellcats and Vettes are a dime a dozen.

A few weeks ago just cruising on a Sunday afternoon a S550 GT owner pulled up next to me and looked at my car and saw the fender outlets and the GT350 badge and said I didn’t know they made a GT350 ???

Driving home from the grocery store last Sunday. Car pulls up next to me matching my speed on the right. Ignored him thinking he wanted to race. Happened to glance over and he had his hand cupped behind his ear. Took the hint and at the next light put it in sport mode and revved it a bit leaving the light. As he caught back up and passed he gave a big thumbs up.

Sitting at a light in traffic, a Camaro SS pulls up in the right lane and we’re chatting about each other’s cars. Truck in the left lane makes its way over and the driver shouts “I’ll take the mustang any day.” We all chuckle. I love this car.

Had a dude in a silver R8 v10 say that my car was better looking than his lol. I think he just liked the blue.
I've always liked the R8 since it came out, but they do look kinda off to me, in person at least. Not enough...ass on em.

We’ve got quite a few GT’s in my town of over 300K people, maybe three GT350’s. My local dealerships are really clueless about them even though they’ve sold a couple.
I can absolutely understand some Mustang owners not knowing anything about our 350’s.

When I first got my GT350 my neighbor (a Mitsubishi Mirage enthusiast and a man from another land) asks me
'Is that a new car? It is BROKE! Why it make SO much NOISE! Not GOOD QUALITY car'.

Needless to say I open the exhaust valves immediately as I fire up the Voodoo.

This thread is amazing. I'm glad it got dug back up!

-After driving spiritedly and getting back into city traffic- *Older good looking woman in the passenger seat of a BMW rolls the windows down at a red light* "What year is that?" she asks. "18" I reply. "HUH!?" she leans closer. "2018!" I holler back. "Beautiful car!" she says as her husband whos driving is lowering his eye glasses at my car. The light turns green and they don't roll the window back up..

Shelby owners (myself included) are sensitive about what the car is called. Most of us have done the research and followed the car since the first spy videos of the 'new GT350'. I remember where I was first time I saw the 'new g350' 6 years ago making high revving passes. I had never been a Mustang fan. I fell in love with something deeper than "Mustang". Shelby owners bought the car because they know what it is. You can't accidently buy one. I don't usually correct people when they say "Nice mustang". If it's someone I know, I'll take the time and explain. But like the persistent Prius owners or people who can't comprehend why you'd buy a car that "get's bad gas mileage", they don't have our same passion. Our passion runs much deeper than brands, or cylinder count, or foreign, or domestic, or manual, or automatic. I'm sure you could ask them what their hobby/passion/interest is and and be able to criticize it too. The 99' beat-up civic guy may be in his first project car because his dad or mom didn't care about cars, but he loves car games and wants to get into a very expensive hobby. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a car culture and have never really been brand loyal. I've owned a 65' Ranchero, 68' El Camino, 73' Porche 914, 95' Accord (tough times), 6 Suabrus, a Mini Cooper and now a GT350. The long-winded point I'm trying to make is, LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO DRIVE BORING CARS. Enjoy the drive and let people in their hybrids scoff. Rev to the kids on the sidewalk, and pass everything but a gas station!

This is a Shelby:

This is a Mustang reworked by Shelby in cooperation with Ford:

This is a Mustang carrying the Shelby nameplate, but made with no involvement from Carroll Shelby:

This is Carroll Shelby in front of a Mustang, using his name, also not designed by him (post-consumer upgrade package):

Ok, ya'll who get upset at your GT350 being called a mustang are absolutely out of your damn minds. Especially by random people on the street who you should be happy they recognize it's a car worth talking to you about at all in the first place. And this is coming from a guy who's not particularly interested in recent 90's+ mustangs either. I love the originals obviously, and I like foxbodies for being kinda oddball, but that's about it. That said, our GT350's ARE MUSTANGS. The GT500 is just a Mustang too, with its fancy fiddly shift knob and all. That's the f'ing beauty of it. Embrace the fact that you are driving one of the best cars ever designed and made, the fact that a big 3 automaker took an airport rental car and spanked it around a track as fast as a 991 911, for the price of a loaded Expedition. That's what makes it special. THAT's what people love about this car. That's it not a fancy exotic or one off prototype or something that no one can afford. It's not the Shelby name. What does Shelby even mean anymore? It's a Mustang with an awesome engine, and, for those of us who went hog wild, even some fancy wheels and a wing. That's it! That doesn't mean it's not a great car. It's exactly what makes it a special car.

If you had a Daytona would you be mad if people called it a Charger? Is an RS not an Escort? A GNX still not a shitbox Regal at the end of the day? Is there a Cobra Terminator guy out there that's like "Excuse me, good sir, but this is not a *Mustang*, this is Special Vehicles Team Cobra! You must have me mistaken for a prole!" These are all incredibly special cars that are loved by any car enthusiast. The fact that some passionate people at those companies managed to push past the bureaucracy to do something once in a generation is what makes them cool cars to be proud of. If you're ashamed you own a Mustang then save up for an Aston Martin or something (just make sure it's newer than 2007!). I can't imagine your reaction if someone called your Lambo a Volkswagen...

Went for a ride yesterday. When I got back I was in my driveway cleaning the car before putting it back in the garage. My neighbor stopped by in his Prius to check out the car. (I have three neighbors with a Prius) He started a conversation about the car:
Neighbor: Every time you go by my house I can hear you go by, this thing is loud.
Me: Ya, that’s one of the things I love about it!
Neighbor: My Prius is nice a quiet.
Me: To each his own, what ever turns you on.
Neighbor: What kind of car is this?
Me: It’s a Shelby Mustang.
Neighbor: Shelby? That’s a funny name for a car!
Me: Named after the 60s Mustang designer, Carroll Shelby.
Neighbor: This car was designed by a woman?

I kid you not! This conversation went on for awhile longer. This guy is truly NOT
A CAR GUY! Car clueless is an understatement! He has different priorities and
Interests in life then I do. Doesn’t make him a bad guy but we are definitely two
opposites! We got into exhaust sound, horsepower, acceleration, wax, rain and cost
and so on! There wasn’t one thing we could agree on. He tired me out by the time he left!
That is one of the most hilarious exchanges I have heard.. I am potentially moving into a new house and my first thought was: "I wonder what the neighbors will think of the Shelby?"
